Heh on the same topic, my manual shift **** is tight as HELL.
I tried using adjustable pliers with electrical tape around the teeth, but the teeth ended up digging a small scratch in the leather shift ****...
I've tried with both hands REALLY tight on the **** to move it... damn thing won't budge. Not a big problem, as I'm fine with the stock shift ****, but it'd be nice to loosen it in case I wanted to replace it (with one whose shift pattern emblem wasn't faded off, and one that doesn't have scratches in it as a result of me trying to remove it with metal tools...)

Use a Pipe wrench. These are the red handel ones with a big adjusting wheel thing. Make sure it's got a long handle and wrap the **** with some rubber sheets or towel and turn counter clockwise. The long handle give you leverage and it comes right off. They are glued to keep them on.

use a strap wrench--available at sears, osh or harbor freight. it will take the **** off without damaging it. also useful for tightening/loosening any delicate or finished threaded objects.
