Installing a y-pipe on a 2k

I was wonderin for everyone who put on their own y-pipe. Was it hard breaking the bolts loose. Or would u still recommend taking it to a exhaust store? Any other hints of help?

When i installed mine i sprayed liquid wrench on them and let the bolts soak for a few minutes. I have a long extension and a breaker bar so that definetly helped. Wasn't too hard just time consuming. Also having the an O2 sensor socket help. If you are going to installed it yourself i would order the gaskets that go on the y-pipe. You can get those from DaveB. Good luck.

I hope the y-pipe is easier than doing the cat-back. I just put mine on today and those kat bolts would not come off for nothin. So me and my friend ended up recking the kat with torches to get it off. Then I had to call stillen and get a new one shipped next day air. Yet another 250$.

hopefully you won't encounter the same thing with the y-pipe install. if you have to; use liquid wrench. Don't forget your safety glasses and obviously you want to let the car cool down before you tackle a project like this. I don't know if the search is working, but if it is; do a search to see what other members have done. Remember what work for me may not work for you. But in anycase good luck.

2K Y Pipe

I just did a Cali-spec y-pipe on my SE2K (37k miles). The cat bolts needed a breaker bar with liquid wrench. I replaced the nuts on the cat.

As for the other nuts, I sprayed liquid wrench and they came off with no problem. If you have a Cali-spec, you need to loosen the front pre-cat at the top to mount the y-pipe. Also, an O2 socket made it easier to remove the sensors. I unscrewed the O2 sensors on the OEM pipe while it was still in place and just taped them to the side rather than unclipping thewires from the side. It took about 2 hours by myself.
