Concentrated windshield washer fluid. Napa sells a little bottle for $.99 I have always used it to remove tree sap.

I use Goo-Gone diluted with water on a wet towel. The Goo-Gone works great, takes the gunk off right away. Then I just wash the area with some carwash to make sure the Goo-Gone is off.

You can use a cotton ball and either kerosene or gasoline... it comes off extremely fast. Then wash the area off.

They sell Goo-Gone at Target and K-Mart. It's in the household cleaner section, not the automotive.

3m Adhesive remover @ any HW store. Safe on paint, carpet, convertible tops, great for removing tar, grease, stuff
My Jag mechanic uses this stuff all of the time.

DON'T use rubbing compound! I found out the hard way. I used it on my white car all the time without a problem, but it ruins the finish on the black paint.

You can try a paint prewax cleaner. I'd stay away from gasoline or harsh chemicals.

any of the bug and tar removers will get it off. used them many times on paint w/o problems. course my car is white but just wash off the chemicals when your done, maybe put a little wax on the area to re-coat whatever wax may have rubbed off
