the radiator i got has lifetime warranty IF i flush it once a year

ok here is my original thread. i NEVER said once a year, that was someone else. i just do it if it hasnt been done in awhile.

ok everyone learn from my mistake!!!
everyone needs to go flush your radiator right away if you havent done it recently. leave work if you have to, just go do it.
mine was never done and now i have to replace my radiator tonight. the radiator is completely stopped up and even a profesional back flush wont clean it out.
i will being taking pictures and making a "how to" on the radiator swap.
here is the thread where i talk more about the problem and the whole process of figuring out what was wrong.

i never said in the beggining to flush it once a year. i just said with my new radiator i had to for the warranty. i still plan on doing it once a year so i never have do deal with this again.
i started this post to help people out by telling them "FLUSH YOUR RADIATOR IF IN HASNT BEEN DONE IN AWHILE"
i didnt start this post as a discussion about "how often should we flush our radiators". you made it that.
if you choose not to flush your radiator to be on the safe side that is fine. let it go.

im sorry i didnt make it specific enough for you. i figured people could make the judgement call for themselves.
but i guess not so here you go
"FLUSH YOUR RADIATOR IF IN HASNT BEEN DONE 2 years, 7 months, 2 weeks, and 8 days"
the point is no there may not be a specific time to do it. it all depends on driving style, weather, etc. i NEVER tried to give a timeline of flushing a stock radiators. i was just saying people should think about doing it so they dont have to replace theirs like i did

One should change their oil and tires too if they haven't in "awhile" right?

Which brings me to my ORIGINAL point. Read the owners/Nissan FSM. Which you STILL haven't done.

The reason you NEVER tried to advise on a time, is because you have absolutely no idea what that time is.

BTW. My $20 bet still stands heh-heh

to heck with it... instead of worrying about maintenance schedules, I'm just going to buy a new car every month.

That SHOULD do the trick.

ok, do you not have a job?
here is the deal, its a judgement call. you cant ALWAYS trust what you manual says. sometimes it is better to do stuff more often. does it HAVE to be done no, but it wont hurt. yes ive read it but i dont have it memorized like you do. this is why its a judgement call. tires you change when they are worn cause you can see that. can you see if your radiator is clogging up NOPE!!
i never came a time cause like i said, it depends on diffirent things. again i figured people could figure that out on their own. like a few people in this post did.
i still dont understand why you are attacking me when i was trying to help. im sorry i hurt your feeling.
and i NEVER understood what the bet was about

Who's attacking? It's discussion

So what's a better reference? "Awhile" or the Nissan FSM.

Why do you think you have hurt my feelings? Are yours hurt?

You said "I've concluded that you know nothing about cars". I said, "you wanna back that up?" "How about a $20 bet to see who knows what about cars?" You. "what $20 bet?"

I've offered this bet to a few others that said the same. Bascily it came down to.
1) We both paypal a 3rd party $20 each
2) Someone comes up with a list of questions(ie.. maxima engines/repair etc. general engine theory etc... )
3) See who can best answer those questions.
4) Once it's decided, 3rd party paypals $40 to the winner.

Some guy named Paco wanted to bet $1000. He later declined the offer. hehe. He was a moron though

Now I know you mentioned that you rebuilt a Jeep engine. But I've rebuild various old Datsun L series engines and have done lots of engine work on my VE30DE. Teardowns, VTC replacement and most of the mundane engine maintanance blah crap. so hard to make a fair test.

Not that it matters, but I drive a 92se.

Are up to 1000 views yet?

ok you said "who knows more about cars". then you say all the questions will be maxima related. which is it. you obviously have more experience with the nissan line where as mine is mainly about jeeps. so to make it fair the questions need cant be make specific.
so why are you in the 5th gen forum with an old @ss 92??? how about $20 on a race

You could make it automotive in gen then. No difference to me But we ARE in a maxima forum.

I'm in here because APPARENTLY some people don't know how to take care of their cars.

My car is old yes, but then again MY radiator never clogged up.

You got a 2k1 or a 2k2+? I'd actually race a 2k1 even if it's 5-sp. What hell. Just for kicks though. haha

And BTW with the money you spend on changing it every year you could buy a new one every 3yrs. Lastly jttaylor155 you might as well get a new water pump your car is almost 4yrs old and with that f'd up radiator and nasty coolant you never know...

Actually you bring up a very interesting point.

Jeff... what do you think about the practice of when you change the timing belt, you AUTOMATICALLY change the water pump since it is such a PITA to take apart the front of the engine to get to the timing belt, and you save on the extra labor charge to go back in to change the water pump when it goes bad?

You change a "perfectly good" water pump in the process (according to what you say)... ???

you do know that you can flush it yourself for about 10 dollars right so i could save that money and get one every 18 years. so you are right, i wont flush it again, ill just get a new one in 2021. im sure ill still have my car then

If you are due for a belt, you should just change the pump too. Because the labor to get into there again is way too much.

If you change a bad pump, might as well change the belt. Why? Because when you change the pump, you spill gylcol all over the belt. That has been known to weaking the belt. Should change the cam seals, front crank seal also.

But the above has more to do with economies of scale rather than the issue of leaving a good part in there. Besides you can't "test" a belt or a water pump for that matter.

Hmm we are getting into that car knowledge thing here JT

Radiator, you can have it pressure tested and visually inspected for cleanness. A clogged up radiator will look like total crap if you look inside it. A unit with clean fins/tubes would most likely NOT be clogged. But a flow test could verify that also.

Belts. You can inspect for obvious wear. But an old belt that looks to be in perfect condition can go with no warning. And since any strength test would essentially ruin the belt, it's not really testable.

Please paypal $20 to my address............

Just as a radiator that tests fine and looks clean can clog up suddenly and go bad!
