You are speaking from ONE example and ONE experience. Other than that, you don't really have any experience. WHAT clogged up the radiator? When was it flushed before? And since you INSIST on saying the coolant was fine, what did it test out at? That's right you don't know the answers to ANY of this. Did you buy a OEM Nissan radiator? If it's aftermarket, maybe THAT'S why you need to flush it every year. Is that what the Nissan FSM says? HAVE you even looked before posting this "change every year"?? Nope again. You ever think the radiator company says change every year to cover their warranty claims?? duh. If they were concerned that their radiator would go bad in ONE year, they would require 6 month changes right?

Like I said, if the Nissan FSM said "every year or every 10,000 miles or so" Fine. At least that's some type of researched answer.

But you just to say "change every year because in my ONE case I screwed up my coolant system" is invalid. Have you ever read anyone else having this issue?? I haven't.

Have you ever thought that it might be something YOU or a previous owner did vs the car??

If you said "check you coolant or check your radiator" fine. But to say someone is going to "***" thier radiator if they don't is pretty ignorant.

I have seen my share of 3-gen radiators. ALL of them have been PERFECT. And they have had no extraordinary care. Does that mean I can spout out that one shouldn't inspect their coolant systems??? NOPE!

dude, im a perfect example of why you should do this. my coolant was fine!!! over time i got a build up in the radiator. a flush would have fixed it early on. but over time it just built up more and more.
for my new radiator to keep its warranty i have to flush it every year HMMMMMM wonder why that is!!!
maybe because they need to be done.
so stop arguing with people. im speaking from experience you on the other hand are not. if you want to *** up your radiator be my guest

Especially coming from someone who pride's themselves on posting rice mobiles on .org. And who seems to lack the technical expertise to about coolant systems so thus reverts to childish flames.

BTW, way to be a good example mr moderator!! i started this thread to let people know to flush their radiators so they dont have to replace them like i did. then you come into MY THREAD and start arguing with people about it.

For once i have to agree with Jeff92SE here...if you coolant is "fine" there is no need to flush you radiator...

if your coolant breaks down, thats what causes your radiator to clog up...and not even flushing will cure that problem.

the bottom line is..your coolant was not fine..if it was your radiator wouldnt have taken a dump on ya

He said he has NEVER had to replace/repair one that was flushed every year. He also said some people will get lucky and go 4 - 5 years with no problem, but if you want to be sure to not have problems, be flushing every year by the time the car is 3 years old. I haven't been back to see him since!

Yes that's probably true. To the same extend that you would never have to visit the tire guy for a failed tire if you change them every year.

If one wants to do that fine. I'm just putting a perspective to it.

a FLUSH is to CLEAN the radiator and the whole cooling system!!
i have decided you know nothing about cars.

You know, instead of trying to flame, why don't you take a look at your owner's manual or Nissan 5th gen FSM. Because since you know best, you SURELY have these technical references correct?

I posted my quick reference already and stated some TECHNICAL reasons as to why I stated what I did. If you want to continue to offer subjective advice based on who you grew up with, go ahead

Please explain the difference I've torn down my VE30DE, done 4-5 clutch jobs, replaced my VTCs when a Nissan mechanic I DIDN'T grow up with couldn't, done 1 engine swap, numerous repairs etc....

What does that make me?? Or better yet, what does that make YOU?

I guess getting that fsm info is just asking too much

Jeff... hey look... I'm in YOUR boat... have I had actual classes on mechanics? No (unless you call the time spent with my stepdad as 'educational' as he told me about this or had me do that). Am I ASE certified? No. Neither are you. I, like you, would qualify myself as mechanically inclined... at least, since I did almost ALL of the work on my Intrepid (except the tranny stuff), and I have done a lot of the work on both of my Maxes... things that others take to the dealer to have installed. Modding is fun...

So... with that, you claim an expertise based on your experience... I do the same. You keep referring, however, to the RSM or FSM. I'm saying this... I've grown up learning to flush every year. The EXPERT at the radiator shop said he's NEVER seen a radiator fail that was flushed every year (and we did clarify the difference between a refill and a flush). So it does no harm to do so.

I said before... I just don't like criticism... you do it your way, I'll do it my way. Neither one of us is wrong. So don't criticize me for doing it my way... that's like the critics who badmouth Maximas who don't have an aero kit (which some of us don't like)... or a custom sound system (which some of us don't wish to spend $$$ on)... etc.

cool?

That sounds fine. Thanks. Like I said before, change it every week if you like. It just might be a waste of time if you do. If it tests out BAD and the coolant only lasts one year(based on tests), then go ahead and change it every year. Nothing wrong with that.

Just for reference:

According to FSM: Flush coolant at 60k miles or 48 months and then every 30k miles or 24 months thereafter.

its not ignorant dill hole, its diffirence of opinion. its called going above and beyond to take care of your car. does your manual say to wash your car? nope but you still do it to take care of your car. no you might not HAVE to change it every year BUT would be a good idea! the reason for my problem? i just bought the car and the person before me NEVER flushed it.
and what the gay $20 offer about?

Actually my owners manual does say to wash your car. Oh now your just choosing to avoid that $20 post now?

So tell me, how do you get "change/flush your coolant every year" from "the person who bought it NEVER changed it?" Just because your aftermarket radiator said so(for warranty reasons?) Maybe if the previous owner followed the fsm, you wouldn't be having this problem.

So let me get this straight. Because the previous owner NEVER changed/flushed their coolant, you are now suggesting that EVERYONE that owns a 5th gen change/flush their coolant EVERY year despite what the NISSAN FSM says??

ok here is my original thread. i NEVER said once a year, that was someone else. i just do it if it hasnt been done in awhile.

ok everyone learn from my mistake!!!
everyone needs to go flush your radiator right away if you havent done it recently. leave work if you have to, just go do it.
mine was never done and now i have to replace my radiator tonight. the radiator is completely stopped up and even a profesional back flush wont clean it out.
i will being taking pictures and making a "how to" on the radiator swap.
here is the thread where i talk more about the problem and the whole process of figuring out what was wrong.

mine had 6 miles when I bought it. It has 54k+ miles on it now and it is less than 3 years old. I've not yet flushed the coolant. The coolant 'looks' fine and the level has never really changed ever. I guess I will see what happens when I go change it in a little while.

By the way, I replaced the plugs at 46k miles just for kicks...
