starting to modify, need advice!

I'm looking to start modifying my 2k2 SE, but I'd like some advice so I don't buy useless parts. From what I've read, a stock 6sp runs anywhere from 94-96 mph trap speeds and high 14s-low 15s. My last car was a 94 GSX and I went 13.5@100mph on a turbo back, intake, and a MBC at 16psi of boost on 93 octane. I'd like to get to that level of performance with my Max, but probably around 14@100mph since the GSX obviously has the 60' advantage.

What parts should I be looking at for a performance increase? I figured I'd start with an intake (probably weapon R) and a catback (maybe Cattman). Has anyone dyno'd before and after with a catback to see if its worth the $$$? After this I'm kinda lost as to where I should go next. I don't want to mess with an UDP, BTW. There were many little free mods on the GSX, are there any for the Max?

Thanks

high 14s for a 6speed? most good 6speed drivers get low 14's and some (emax) high 13's but with all these new toys out who knows

Yeah, looking through the timeslips the avg. is prob. around 14.6 for a stock 6sp. My mph seems about right though . So, what mods would generally follow the intake and catback? I've heard about the y-pipe, are there any other bolt-ons to consider? Anyone have a Y-pipe, test pipe, and catback on a 3.5 who'd like to comment on the performance of the combo? Who makes y-pipes for the 2k2, BTW?

if the sole purpose of you modifying your maxima is to hit those time slips at a track, the easiest way to go is to run nitrous.

Stillen and Warpspeed makes y-pipes for 2K2 Maxima.

stillen dont' make y-pipes for the 5.1 Gens.
warpspeed does, but some will follow that little was gained, IF ANY!
intake and catback TOGETHER do some wonderous things. i had my injen and something just didnt' feel right. i just swapped out to a greddy full catback, and i'm telling you, that should have been my first job. the 2 crush points hold back a lot of air. my low pulls much harder now. it's extremely noticable, and no, it's not cause of the noise (which, btw, the greddy is not loud at all = thumbs up)

i'd say if you want to *start* maximizing it's power w/out going into hardcore mods, i'd say get your timing advanced up to 17degrees, then follow up with an underdrive pulley. now, i haven't tested this yet, but i know stillen sells the FULL pulley set (all 3 pulley's) for the 350z, and since both max and Z are VQ35DE engines, then the pulley's should/would also fit the max.

now, if you have the money and you want to be the guinea pig, stillen is releasing in less than 2 weeks, a full set of headers, leading to the cat. with this, you're practically having perfect flow from the engine to the muffler.

beyond this, you're going into cams, bored out pieces, etc... but at this point, you're not asking us "what should i do" cause if you're at that level, i'd be asking you "what should i do"

i've covered as much as i could...good luck, i'm gonna go have a beer.
