Bad wheel bearing conformation needed......

Ok,as u guys know I dont post up crap unless its important to me.

Heres the deal. Im getting a squeeking sound when I drive at any speed.
Im 99.9% sure its not my brakes,as I have new front rotors & pads & when I step on the brakes the sound is still there unchanged. The intensity of the sound changes with wheel speed. The faster I go the louder, more high pitched it gets. The slower I go the lower it gets and I think I can actually hear the bad bearings moving around in the housing.

Anybody else ever had this expierience?? How hard is it to change on a maxima? And what does a new bearing cost(approx)?

TIA
Justin

Jack the car up and try to move the tire (grab it at 9 and 3 o'clock and wiggle it) on the one you think is bad. A bad bearing will allow movement in the tire. You'll know it, it'll feel sloppy.

I honestly have never heard squeaking as a symptom of a bad wheel bearing. You usually find them during inspection and the tire has wiggles.

I had a bad bearing and you just described the noise it made perfectly. For a little while, it sounded like a propeller driven aircraft following me around everywhere...

i changed both front wheel bearings on my car just a few weeks ago...but they didn't make 'sqeeking' sound...it was more like a 'whirling' noise when the car was moving...it was loud...

I had the same thing. Sounded like a helicopter. They fixed it under warranty because I'm under 60k miles

Well I have a garage to do it in,all the tools I need, and a lift. I've done bearings before,Just wondering from those who've done it on a maxima just how difficult it was.

I had mine done by the dealer. It was under the drive train warranty(60K). It did make a squeeling sound that got louder with higher speeds and the frequency went up. anyways if you are under 60k nissan should fix it.

Front or rear? I've done the rear. Real easy. About $90 per side.

I had the same problem. Like quicksilver said, it sounds like a propeller. It's covered under 60,000 mile warranty.

What dealership did you take it to? My CV boot is leaking grease on the passenger side. Anytime I make a right turn I feel a vibration thru the steering and hear a slight noise.

It's a whirring sound that grows louder as you speed up... mine would happen 20mph+, loud at 60mph. It ended up trashing the hub too but they didn't know that until they removed the bearing and couldn't put my car back together.

Went and had it checked out yesterday (havent drove it since). Turns out my bearings r fine. Its my brake pads that r rubbing. My brand new HAWK pads r melted, and my rear pads are almost down to the metal. I think Im just gonna go back to OEM pads all around.

Thanx for all the help & info.

I am hearing the same kind of sound from my front wheels - did you replace the bearings by yourself or had it done in a shop? Did it solve your problem? What budget am I looking into for two front wheel bearings?
Thanks a lot!

Well crap my a$$hole dealer told me it was a "Normal wear part" and charged me $300. 6 months later the same bearing started going bad.
