My poor baby!!!! ARGH!

You know, we all tend to b**ch about our cars quite a bit on this forum...but let me tell you, since Saturday night I've thought nothing but how bad I miss my car. She gets checked out tomorrow, to see if she can be saved. I don't know what I'd do if she's gotta be put down...funny you think of a million cars that are better, until the question comes...then it's like, well, for the price and quality and speed...there's just nothing else I'd want to drive!

And I just got it looking the way I wanted to....

An even better story...

Heading home from a show at 2am, heading I-5 south, getting onto the 90 east in Seattle.

The I-90 "ramp" (not really a ramp, just a split off the highway) is two lanes. As you go from South to East, there's a turn...well, as I'm coming up on this turn I noticed two cars, side by side...brakes not on.

By the time I realize they weren't moving it was too late.

I missed the car in my lane and slammed into the one in the left, rear-ending the guy and sending him flying....he used the "push" and just kept on going, as did his buddy in the other car.

I was then hit from behind by another car that was in turn hit from behind by another.

So, they took off...no idea what they were doing, but they were probably about to race or drunk or something. Didn't get any info, can't even remember what the heck they were driving...and I can spot any car/make/model and year usually just from tail lights. Guess the stress blanked my memory. It all happened in under 10 secs.

Call the cops and basically it's my fault since I couldn't stop in time.
Might not get a ticket, they're gonna talk to their "superiors". We'll see. If I do get a ticket, I'm getting a lawyer cause this is BS.

Been driving for almost 13 years.. I've had one speeding ticket when I was 17. I'm not going down like this!

erik, is your car totalled or what? I hope not....

But if it happened to be totalled, I just want to say that I have first dibs on your smoked tail lights.

Hmmmm, Id guess that since there were apparently no witness to these other vehicles you are probably going to get a ticket for failure to control your vehicle.
They may let you off if there is no accident report filed by the driver you hit or you can find a witness to the fact the were parked in traffic lane but, since someone whacked you I'm guessing your gonna get a ticket.
In CO anytime you rear end somebody the rear-ender not the rear-endee always gets the ticket. Likewise for the first guy in a chain reaction accident.

Good Luck

Now actually, the person who rear-ended me was pushed into me by the car behind them, thus my bumper will get repaired by the third person...

Now, the adjuster came out this morning and he didn't think the car was totaled, since they basically missed my bumper and frame. So no smoke tails for now!

His ticket would be overshadowed by the fact that two vehicles fled the scene of an accident...and obstructing right of way on an interstate (this only goes for non moving vehicles in moving lanes or vehicles moving slower than the slowest legal posted limit) is also a ticketable offense. Of course the old standby "failure to avoid an obstruction" can be used against him, but that particular laws original intent was not meant for vehicles or things thrown from vehicles, but rather for use with obstructions (like signs/posts/medians) in the roadway or in road construction areas. Also, if there is no accident report filed for the stopped vehicle that he hit, then he shouldn't even receive a ticket for that offense (or non-offense in this strange case), but should just have to pay for those damages out of pocket since there wasn't any criminal intent/nature.

I totally agree.

DrVolkl lives in WA State. There is no such law as "failure to avoid an obstruction". There is however a law called "following too close", but that would not apply (I wouldn't think) in this particular case. Other than that, negligent driving or the like...but those really wouldn't apply here either.

Most likely he will not receive a ticket. Assuming the cops believe him, in other words, that he really didn't run into a jersey barrier and made up the story about the stopped cars, there will be no ticket. It will just be a reported accident and left up to the insurance company.

DrVolkl...not saying you made anything up...just an example.

did you slam into a car, suv or a truck???...the reason i ask is because from the looks of it (and probably least damage) the hood and front fascia took the brunt of the impact...hitting a car IMO would have probably eaten that front crumple zone....

airbags deploy?

I don't really remember what I hit...I know it was a car. It happened really fast. I actually dodged the car in my lane and hit the car in the left lane which was also stopped. That's why most of the damage is to the front passenger side of the car...I was looking for room anywhere I could find it, and the car in the left lane was a couple feet ahead of the other one. When I hit him, I sent him flying (they were both probably rolling at about 5 mph...there were no brake lights the whole time) and he just kept on going, speeding up with his buddy. I hope the extra push I gave him helped him win the race...
From what I can remember, it was a greenish honda accord looking thing. Coulda been anything in that catagory...late 80's early 90's.

My car will be done sometime in October. Can you beleive it? Going through withdrawl already.

AND SOMEONE already stole the nissan emblem off the front grille! Total BS!! I was going to keep that!

Man, sorry to hear about this...

There is NOTHING llike that moment when you KNOW you are going to hit something and you can't do anything about it. Glad that you (primarily) and your ride (secondarily) survived. Good luck!

DrVolkl,
that sucks man! not even a month after the wheels and bam.

If they do end up totaling it, could you let me know? I wouldnt mind taking on a rebuild, but it sounds like your pretty sure that it wont be totaled.

Kind of stupid of the guy not to stop or come back, but then again I guess he would be scared to because if they were racing, they would have cause, and no one wants that on their record. Is your insurance being pretty cool about it or do you think your going to pay out the nose for it?

Yeah, they must have been wasted or something. Insurance is going to cover anything...but who knows what's going to happen to my rates. I was on the good driver program...I haven't had a ticket in over 10 years. We'll see what they do with this....so far no ticket, but they still look at it as my fault. The car is at the shop...they won't even get to it till the 26th...so mid October or so I'll get it back?

Yeah, the rack passed the speed test...stayed right where it was supposed to.

No rental...I'm driving my 88 pathfinder for now. Not exactly a speedy critter, but it gets me around. I miss my car really bad.
