In-Cabin Microfilter How-To

It's been a while since I updated the web site. Probably because I haven't done anything to the car in a while.

In any case, the car is 19 months old now, and I figured it was time to change the in-cabin microfilter. I was surprised at how dirty my filter was!!

In case anyone was wondering how to do this, or what the filters look like, I have a tech write-up with pictures posted on my web site. Please have a look!

Thanks for the direction how to do it yourself since I was wondering since I don't want to pay a lot for the labor. Thanks again Greg!

Thanks for the write-up!

Btw, is it me or is the original filter non-carbon filtered?

Thanks Greg. I've been to your site on several occasions and found it very informative.

I need to change mine also, just been putting it off for a while.

BTW, courtesyparts.com has them for $45.62(shipping not included)

I figured Courtesy would have them cheaper. I bought them from a local dealer because I had a $60 service credit (long story, not worth explaining).

In answer to SoundMike - the original filter element definitely does NOT look carbon filtered.

The Nissan Part # is B7200-3Y000, and is listed as being compatible with all A33 body styles, which is the Maxima and I30 from 2000-2003. Not sure about the 6th-gens (2004+).

Also wanted to do the write-up to let people know I'm still alive and haven't forgotten about the site. I may not be updating it as regularly as I used to, but my intention is to leave it up.

Gregg, I do have one quick question, since I had managed to change the filter and followed your easy direction. But how do you disconnect the airbag connector. I had quite a struggle trying to pull the plug out. My is yellow plug but I couldn't figure out how. I just manage to remove the filter while the glove box is hanging by the airbag wire.

It's a little tricky. They say NOT to disconnect the two halves of the yellow (air bag) plug, but I did by accident. Nothing bad happened but it wasn't necessary and it didn't help because the left half stayed attached to the glove box (I felt like an idiot).

There is a little black tab underneath the yellow part that if you press down on it from the right, you can then slide the entire yellow tab off to the right. It's a 2-second operation if you know what to look for.

I'm sure the answer will come to me when replacing the filter, but I have one question. What side of the filter faces the passenger side door?

The part of the filter that says "up" faces toward the rear of the car. If you can orient yourself given that information, I think that will answer your question.
