homemade cai?

i was intrested in making my own cai, it there anything i need to look out for, or not do, i just want a little more power and sound, i dont really want to spend a lot of money, i have the filter already, i dont mind doing lots of work to get it right, but if its cheaper to get it done the right way with out breaking anything, id like to know, if id get myslef in over my head. ive got the whole thing from the maf forward removed so far, seems i can just mount up a pipe to the maf and drill a hole for that sensor attach the filter and be good, please correct me if im wrong.

Or spend the $50 and have a CAI that looks good and gets the job done.

Nevermind, I thought I was in the 4th gen forum.

i was planning on using a smooth interior pipe, instead of a ribbed one, wont that give me a better air flow

smooth pipe will give better air flow, but probly not enough to make a difference. I used the ribbed stuff because it was easy to bend it. Works just fine. At the track i got the same times using my CAI/Ram air setup as I did when I ran without the CAI but also without a filter. So I guess the CAI works great!
