HID's stolen....replace with 2001's? Tips? Ideas?

Hi all,

My HID's got stolen off my 2k3 SE last night. I have a hoodlock, security bolts and a motion detector Viper alarm and they still got 'em. Nothing is safe I guess. Anyway, I'd rather not just replace them and have the ba$tards steal them again. So I've read on this forum how the 2001 halogen headlights fit on the '03's. I was wondering if anyone knows if Nissan dealers will do this install. If not, will it void my warranty to have them installed? Also, where can i buy the older headlights? I don't need the AE lights, just a set of halogens that will fit. Any help on what to do here to replace the HID's with halogens will be a big help, including if anyone knows someone in the NYC area who can do the install.

Thanks in advance,

Dan

p.s. I looked through 15 pages of posts and couldn't find thie answer to this question, but it's 2:30 AM. If I missed it, I apologize. Please answer my questions or post a link to an answer if I missed it.

OK, I did some more searching today and found a few older threads with some info. Cuzo had mentioned a place in Newark, but I did some checking and found a place in Woodside, Queens that said they do the HID for Halogen switch all the time as well. So I'm going to take the car to that place. If they do a good job, I'll be sure to post here so folks in Queens will have a closer place to go to than all the way down the Jersey Turnpike.

Does anybody know if this makes your insurance go up a lot? i have Geico and I was wondering how my rates will be affected and if it's even worth paying a deductible and raising my rates on top of that.

Thanks in advance,

Dan

can I ask where this happened? It seems to me that HID theft is calming down quite a bit over here in North Queens, NY

Hi,

This happened at about 2:30 this morning 10/2/03 in Bayside, Queens. Actually a pretty nice neghborhood, it seems unusual. But my Girlfriend had her radio stolen out of her pickup a few weeks ago too. (Then again, she grew up in Gloversville, NY...population 9,000 so she leaves her doors unlocked all night.)

So I called the body shop in Woodside and they said they'll get me the lights and install them for $800. This does not include the price for repairs to the hood which suffered a two inch scrape at the front corner on the driver's side, and on the passenger side the paint on the edge of the fender and the edge of the hood wa scraped off but you can't really see that unless you're looking for it. Nevertheless, that will hae to be repainted so i don't have rust dmage to the exposed metal.

Anyone have any thoughts on whether $800 is a good preice for the 2001 lights installed?

I didn't want to do it, but I'll probably have to go through the insurance to get this all done for a reasonable amount.

Thieves suck. I work for my money, why can't they? I suppose it's a good thing I didn't catch anyone. I'd be awaiting arraignment right now for manslaughter and headlights aren't worth 8-12 upstate. But I can silently wish for the painful deaths of those who took my HID's and all the pets and people they love. That doesn't carry jail time.

let me know about any thoughts on the price, and once the work is done, I'll let Queens folks know how well it was done.

Heh, I live around the corner from Pizzeria Uno. I know the Max you're talking about. There's also a blue GLE that's had its HID's taken too. You're lucky to have the garage, but I live in an apt. and don't have that option. I can maybe rent one for about $125 a month, but what's worse? $1500 a year for a garage or having the HID's taken with insurance to cover it?

I think the '01 lights installed is the best option.
