Does anyone know if it possible to add the steering wheel audi controls from the 2001 model to a 2000?

Not impossible, just not practical. The steering wheel is different, so the controls will not fit your current steering wheel. To my knowledge there is nothing that has been changed to the deck. I haven't seen the back of it in so long, but I would assume that there should be an input for it somewhere. A small inconspicous hole normally (like on the back of Sony decks). If not, you could buy the 2001 radio that for sure has that input. Not really worth all the hassle though.

I think the biggest pain in the A$$ will be the wiring. I looked in the trap door on the left hand side of the steering and I think I saw a place to hang the control. What I did not see was a wiring cluster to handle the control.

You would have to rip the dash apart, then the column, then the steering wheel (in no particular order), to get the wiring in.

That was one of the biggest "I should have waited" dooohs! (but there were soooo many WOT WoooHoooo's by not waiting that it's still not worth worring about).

You can't just add the controls to your current steering wheel....the 2001 wheel is completely different. Even the cruise control on the 2001 is different.

Just because the buttons are different, flat instead bubled, doesn't mean that the internals are different. I am not saying they are the same, but I would doubt that they would want to rework the steering (and airbag) 2 years in a row.

I know someone had pics of the 2001 steering wheel posted somewhere, was it Paul?

Sorry. I guess I misunderstood your wording.

Nope... not me. Someone did undertake this though.
