The more I read about HID theft in Jersey, the more I wonder why they even bothered selling maximas over there.....

I am wondering, if you were to park your car at Waldbaums or any other grocery store, would they steal them then, in broad daylight over there???

It seems to me the crooks wait with baited breath for you to leave your 2k2-2k3 parked alone....do they help you out of the car as you exit it???

very strange...

If only I would've known this was a big thing I would never have gotten this car, but then again I got it before this thing was huge.

The only thing you can do is get 2k/2k1 lights...seriously--alarm isnt going to really help--they take it in 15 seconds anyway

move to a better area or sell your car and buy a bucket and drive that (but buy the club and put it on your bucket so they don't steal it to)

I'm very sorry to hear that. That's very frustrating when HID are being stolen. It's pretty alarming with those HID theft in the Northeastern States.

They tried to take my non HID units from my 2K last spring. Idiots! They got chased away by some neighbors and I got away with only a scratch on my hood. Newark sucks for Maximas.

Sorry to hear about your car man I know how it feels.I just put in the AE lights in mine after getting my hids jacked twice. They don't fit perfectly but its better than replacing the hids and keep paying the insurance deductible over and over again.

Question, On your head unit....was it one with a detachable face? most come with them nowdays. I would definitely have one in NJ or any big city area for that matter.

That gives me an idea. How bout coming up with detachable face HID's? That you could take with you....You could have a little black case and all, just like the HU?? then they couldnt take them. Hehe...
Anyone wanna fund some R&D into this??? I can probably come up with something.

I feel your pain up there. They haven't started that jazz here in Chicago, but I know it won't be too far behind.

Well, since the 1987 models, the Maxima has always been a theft target one way or another in the NYC area. Nissan's position on the HID-theft issue is now to just offer the HIDs as an option on Maximas (i.e.: 2k4 Maxima) instead of it being standard equipment (i.e.: 2K2/3 Maxima).

The only real way to curb HID theft is for every car manufacturer to install them on every car they produce; which is totally impractical (costwise).

Peace

Do you have close-up pics of the AE replacements? I'm curious to see how they look.

Sorry to hear it.. I have a 2k1 so I've been lucky so far. I was going to put HID's in but when I was parked across a 2k2 in Glendale, Queens I realized why I didn't. I was half asleep at my gf's and heard an alarm go off. I ran out the door and up the block thinking it was mine end up it was the 2k2. The guy sped off in his minivan just as I run up there. All I could do is give the cops a description off the minivan (no rear plate on,SOB). Anyways, I've seen way too many get stolen and even with the bolt/lock they still damage the car. Wish ya the best of luck tho with insurance and all.

Add another one to the list. I was at class tonight in the Woodbridge area and when I came out my HID's were stolen. There was another Maxima a few cars down and their lights were stolen as well. It's a good thing too cause if his were there I would have been p155ed!! Whatever deadbeat took the lights happened to leave finger prints on my car (didn't do a good job wiping them off) so I'm hoping that I'll get some justice (minus my deductible).

2k3blk6spd, can you post some pics of how your AE lights look on your car?

sorry to hear. do this: get new HIDs, park your car at a possible dangerous place and hide somewhere (most likely they're watching you, so do it carefulle). Get a bat or something heavy and once you see those motherlovers do it, KICK THEIR ASSeS.

i don't want HID's on my 2k anymore...

thanks for the idea carabuser. The thought, among others, has crossed my mind. I think what I'm gonna end up doing is get the 01 headlights and keep the HID's on my car for when things ease up or I feel like shoving them up some thiefs ***.

I think the most frustrating part of it all is that I get jacked and I still have to pay the deductible.

Anybody know what type of modification is needed to put the AE lights into a 2k2 maxima? bracket, wiring harness, etc.

I was looking at a theft deterrent kit on one of these maxima sites I can't remember the name. It came with these bolts and screws to hold your lights in place. Would that help, and if anyone knows the site and have them do they work?
