Moonroof Stops
Moonroof Stops
if it's not one thing...then it's another.
the moonroof on my g/f 2000 Maxima starts and stops...starts and stops...starts and stops. i can hear the relay tripping, but from what i have read on this board it is the moonroof motor. has anyone found anything else that it could be? just wondering before i tell her the bad news.
thanks in advance!

It sounds like you need to reset the motor control. I had this problem when I first picked my Maxima up - it can happen if the battery is disconnected for any amount of time (although it doesn't ALWAYS happen).
To reset it:
*Make sure the moon/sun roof is closed.
*Hold in the manual close button for 2-5 seconds.
*That should do it.
It's funny, when I first got the Max home I called the dealership about this problem and they thought I'd need to bring it back to replace the motor, but before I brought it in I read the manual and found the answer. Shows what they know.

If the above trick does not work, do this-
Ensure moonroof is fully closed
Disconnect negative side of battery
Hold brake pedal for 10 seconds to drain out any stored charge in the electrical system
Reconnect negative side of battery
Press the TILT UP button on the moonroof, to tilt it up, and HOLD IT for 5 seconds
TILT DOWN the moonroof and try opening/closing it. It should be fully reset and working automatically.

Then I reconnected the battery, and opened up and closed tilt on sunroof, and all functions returned to normal...BUT...I have had to do this 3 times...and after a week or so the same dammm thing keeps happening...I get the 1 inch movement when I hold the auto slide open function.
I'm wondering if just holding the tilt open for 5 seconds will reset it.
btw I tried disconnecting positive and negative and doing the same procedure...didnt seem to help...problem returs after anywhere from 2 weeks to a month in a half...
Will try holding the tilt open for 5 or 10 seconds...then see if that helps...
I was also wondering if lubing up the mechanizm might prevent this from happening...
Check for obstructions in your sunroof tracks, grease them up with lithium grease if necessary. I believe this "3-inches-at-a-time" thing is a failsafe mode the sunroof motor...

lol, I'm all looking "spirilis" up in the dictionary, wondering how a medical condition has anything to do with Maxima posts...
