Back from NYC and....... (Kinda long)
Back from NYC and....... (Kinda long)
Well, in ended up taking the max up to NYC with me instead of renting besides all my fears and i'm glad i did. HIDs are intact
. I left the car at a paid parking garage from Friday night until Saturday night. I even left the car parked on the street saturday night because i wanted to leave so early and the parking garage was far from where i was staying (Off of Westchester AVE in Bronx). I did that because i saw another 2k2+ parked on the streets, as well as a new Navigator which has HIDs as well.
Anyway, the reason of the post is to brag about the VQ35. I filled her up at a gas station by my house down here in Raleigh N.C. and drove all the way to the first exit off of New Jersey Turnpike before i filled her up. The Odometer said i travelled 396 miles and the DTE said i had about 72 miles left on the tank. And I was going an average of above 80mph the entire time.
Average MPH read 84mph. Few people where flying so i was following them. Now i know that my DTE is always accurate when going on sort of long trips, so that means i was going to get about 470 on the tank if not better, while at the same time flooring it in some instances (Hit 120mph a few times and held it at 90mph most of the time).
I took the car on a trip before and was maintaining about 65-70mph just to see what's the absolute best i could get out of a tank. This was with my stock exhaust. I got about 450miles, if that. What i noticed on this trip, thanx to the HKS, is that under 2400rpm only 1 exhaust port is open so i get a noticeable drone (not loud but noticeable). Once at 80mph (2500rpms) both ports open up (very noticeable because exhaust noise just dissapears) and the car is a lot more confortable and I will say that is the reason why i was getting better gas mileage.
I'd like for others to try it and let me know what they think, but i believe that the car gets its best gas mileage right when both ports are open.
Also, once both ports where open passing was so much easier. Never needed to downshift. Just floored it and she just went. Pulling power was a lot more noticeable then.
Well, sorry about the long post but some people who complain about bad gas mileage, and the ones who complain about passing power in 6th may find it informational.
Gotta go get an alignment NYC streets SUUUK.
