I didnt know there was a 98 Si; I thought it went 89-91, 92-95, 99-00, 03. The only one worthy of mentioning is the 99-00 (B16A) which will smack around a 2K1 GXE, provided the SI has I/H/E.

Those Si' are a joke! I think GXE would give it a run for its money.
0-60 would be close but on top end the Si is going to run out of steam!

Make sure you race him from 0-100mph or even yet on a highway! Can't stand those pesky civice, so danm GUTLESSS!!!!!!!! Roast him alive!!!!!

F23A4, well judging from that name, he's a honda man, and we're Maxima ppl, but he does own a Max, so props, but he knows probably more than I do about Si's I've beat a few in my time and have gotten beat by only one, which was supercharged, but ya win some and ya lose some, just race him in your GXE and see what the outcome is, because I see this thread possibly getting locked soon.

wouldn't the exhaust hurt the civics performance? Those things have so little torque they need all the backpressure they can get dont they? that would lead me to believe a free flowing exhaust would hurt it...

Very true, but did your friend put a free flowing exhaust on his car or a moderate 2" run on his setup. Anything over 2.25" is strait overkill on those cars. But you can't tell a Honda enthusiast that, they think bigger is better! It was so funny because there was an article on temple of vtec.com where this guy modified a Si with all the go fast goodies and the car made less Hp/trq than stock!

He was so ****ed and disapointed....what a waste!

I'm a Honda man with Nissans in the garage (2k2 Maxima, Y2K Quest SE). If I could've gotten the Acura TL-S and Honda Odyssey for the same price/options, I would have. But what can I say: Nissan dealers give good deals and Honda Dealers dont.

Anyhow, a well driven stock Si typically runs mid-upper 15s and the top speed has been report (by several mags) to be 130mph. The B16A responds pretty well to I/H/E (not unlike the GSR's B18C1), moreso on midrange and topend.

Peace.

Myth, myth, myth...

Quit spreading this non-sense around. It's not backpressure, which at one time was used to help regulate the amount of fuel in the combustion chamber IN TWO STROKE ENGINES, but velocity of gas flow, which is what (in part) helps to make TQ/HP in any engine...

The Maxima should easily spank an Si.

I had a (stolen and absolutely stripped) red 99 and replaced it with another (unmodified) blue 2000 Si. Fun to drive, handles well, but really not very quick.

I sold it and actually made money and got a 02 GLE. I thought I'd miss the Civic, but I don't..The Max is a much faster and better car.

I own both. Both are currently stock. My wife can hang just behind me till around 80. Post 80 there is no chance for the Si. I love to hate these ?'s. P.S. I am auto/ she is 5 spd. I like to drive the Civic more than the Max. I am always impressed with that little 1.6L. Of coarse the Max is faster. I would expect twice the displacement to be faster. My 3.0 ****es me off when IS300's and slightly modded Civic's beat me. But to answer your ?. You should win, even if your an auto. Don't, however, expect it to be a spanking until your over 75mph. Let us know. Videos are always appreciated.

there is no race going on, this is basically just for reference... this guy at school says his friend has an si with cai, headers, exhaust and he thinks its the ****. just wondering if i could beat it. Now i want to race him.

Regardless of who would win, to me its more a matter of overall quality in the car. Sure Hondas are reliable, but what does a Civic have to offer? Leather? nope. Smooth ride? not too great. Nice looks? Depends on the person I guess, but not IMO. Comfort just isnt there - I do 99.5% of my driving just cruising, and that definatly matters the most. Performance is a great benefit though

What is the point of this insightful comparison?

I don't see any measures you are using to compare quality, just features of a subcompact/compact econo-coupe vs. premium midsize family sedan. What's next, comparing the Max to the LS430?

How can you fault a Civic for not offering leather, how many others in its class do?
How can you fault a Civic, with its shorter wheelbase and fully independant suspension that will run circles around Maxima with a log-axled rear suspension, for having a rougher ride than the Maxima?
