HIDs suck in the Rain!

Yesterday it rained so hard here in the NE. I was driving home from college and the rain was really hard, causing floods in some areas. Well the HIDs would not cut through the rain! All I saw was a huge glare, the HIDs were reflecting off the rain droplets and it looked like a huge superwhite fog. I turned on my fogs and it made an improvement but slightly.

I know this is the outcome that is supposed to happen...as you go higher in the temperature scale, the less you can see in the rain. That is why usable fog lights are yellow.

Well, just stating my experience...It would've been better if my HIDs were off and my fogs were only on.

Anyone else unhappy with this?

I have experienced this with standing puddles - at night, the water from the puddles can be reflected onto another surface (such as another car) almost as if there was a mirror in use. It's a pretty cool effect, and only works with HID's.

no mud flying around here but I heard on 1010wins there was a tornado in Staten Island...crazy

So many mixed reactions about the performance of HIDs in rain
In heavy rain these sucked but in light rain or moderate rain of course they will perform well because there is enough space between the rain drops to cut through

but in foggy conditions or very heavy rain, i am dissapointed but not surprised

I't so rare when I drive my Maxima in the rain, I don't even know how effective the HIDs are/arent in those conditions.

Manny, when you swap in your PIAA fogs let me know; I wanna hookup with you and check them out.

Peace.

Drove in everything but snow and I can say withOUT a doubt it's by far, better then the H4s I used to have.

BTW, I'm blind at night, so being able to see is worth EVERY PENNY to me.

i hear ya- I wouldnt mind changing them but then
I would want my signals at leat to put out same yellow- or parking lights (is that legal)
The new grand prix's have a nice driving fogs- I see alot of em driving w/headlights off- they put out a nice output

Ion crystal fogs w/ matching driving lights ( worder if PIAA makes a bulb this color) I will search.....
Then I could change/remove the orange cover on the turn signals and put hyper whites in there to compliment the hids- hmmmm

*cough* right here bro, I got 6000K in the fogs and up top

As for the rain, yes Ive also noticed that. The glare off the wet ground doesnt help much either.

Here is a pic when the fog wernt burned in yet Click

edit: I guess this more or less depends on what type of road surface your on. On new roads that are completly black is when I had a little problem. As for the plain oldschool greyish/white roads even with rain it doesnt bother me at all.

You wanna play is like that huh Igor
Actually yes your "fogs" are brighter. My fogs are only 21watts, doesnt really have much funtion to it just looks REALLY good on the ground. Look at the beam pattern in the front of the car. In person its all purple now and just throws row after row of just purple light, it looks really

As for the headlights...here let my show you a pic of the camera facing the car, same angle as yours.

So which one looks brighter to you
Btw-yes I know the fog is a diff color, it was a defective bulb which I took care of 2months ago.

Im happy I had HIDs the last few days here in San Diego. The smoke from the fires was so bad, it made 4pm look like 9pm. Regular headlights looked like amber dull lights. Only cars with Hids were able to cut through the smoke and see anything. I have used them in rain a few times, and have not had any bad experiences, but then again, it only rains a few days a year here,,,,,I also dont drive blunted in my Max... I have more class than that .

Care to explain why every other pic I took came out clear? Yes I know the pic is a bit fuzzy but I cant help that. Every time I take a shot of the HIDs with the camera facing the lights it comes out like that. With two HUGH rings around each headlight. Here is a pic (again with eht f'd up fog ) with the camera above the light beam.
Still bright as hell.
Btw-Those are Catz D2R capsules.

Dont get me wrong man, I have nothing against Igor's setup it still looks sweet.

Here it is about 50ft away...

On the road the 4300K's were obviously brighter, but from far away (im talkin over 1/2-2miles) when its dark out they look like two spot lights mang. Bottom line is, its still the same ballast just diff bulb.
