BMW 328 is slow

Was going into work on a sunday and cruising about 70 or so when this BMW 328 flies onto the hwy. There are no cars but us and he starts going 80-85. Well I sped up a bit and then cars started to merge onto the hwy almost blocking me in. Choice-hit brakes or drop to 4th and pull in front on bmw. Well I pulled in front and he was miffed. He was tailing me (mind you Im still in 4th now going about 90) and I nailed it and coasted, 3 separate times (took it up to 110 or so each time) and just walked that BMW each time. Figured he'd be closer... Oh well it was fun. Back to work now. Oh and this was amusing as he was in his 50s and I in my mid 30s. We need to grow up, huh?

Yeah ok, thats a pretty vague statement you made. 3-series are not slow at all. Well a 318 is but a 325, 328 and M3 are not slow. Probably the guy in the 328 didn't know how to drive. Wish you lived in New York I have friends with a 325 and 328 that will give you guys a run for your money Oh yeah here's a funny one, my friend has a turbo 325 running 8psi of boost from www.aatuning.com. He raced JTmam03 and he was pinned at 120 and the 325 left him by 20 cars, it was hilarious and pathetic. Then the same 03 raced the N/A 328 with just an intake and it was right next to it the whole time not that impressive when comparing a car that has 193 from factory compared to one that has 255hp. I'll say Nissan's are pathetic the only true Nissan, is the 3rd gen maxima

And if we are talking about speed then i would have to say the best car for its price would be DSM's but in build wise BMW takes the cake on that one.

I have no doubt a modded BMW anything can be very quick, but I was suprised at how little spring there was in the 328. Granted it was probably an auto and I am a 6 speed, but still. Now I wouldn;t even try playing on a curvy road-I know I'd either see tail lights or tree bark up close.

no way a 325 would beat a VQ35 auto or 6sp.

3.5 vs 2.5, the maxima just has so much more torque, it will RIP it off the line. i am pretty sure i can take a 330i with no problem off the line. 330ci are a little bit quicker i guess and a 6sp would have to go against it.

Man u obviously dont know what u r talking about. The guy in the 03 probably did not know how to race. I eat those 328 for breakfast with my 02 max auto. Please show me stock 328 that runs 14.7 consistently on 1/4 mile, also I raced couple of them and beaten them with not sweat. I ran against my buddy's 330 manual and we were dead even and then he pulled on me by 1/2 a car and the 330's are a lot faster and in 6spd. If I was a 6spd I would have given him a run for his money and probably beat him by a car or two. BTW go back to you 3rd gen forum and unless u own a 5th gen dont be talking so much smac and get your facts straight. "jealous BIAATCHH "

Ummm, that BMW has a much smaller displacement and hp/tq ratings that are below 200 so vs. a straight-line land rocket with 3.5L and ~250hp/tq, I don't know what you were expecting.

Hey at least you acknowledged the handling advantage...hard to find someone around here admitting there's more to performane than straight line speed.

Good Kill... Could you tell what year the BMW was by any chance?? My friend had a 95 328 5 speed Coupe w/ chip, exhaust, and intake.. and it wasn't no slug! He'd still get walked but it wasn't no easy win. And my girl got a 2002 BMW 325 5 speed coupe and it has pretty good high-end. Just my 2 cents.

I dunno...given the choice, I would have hit the brakes. I tend to get ****ed when someone cuts me off...how about you?

I'm in my early 20s...I guess I need to grow up.

Auto vs auto, there's no contest: the 2K2/3 Max will RIP the 328, 325 and 323 EVERY time. But the 5sp 328 can hold its own against our auto Maximas.

Now the BMW 330 runs equal acceleration numbers to our 2K2/3 Maximas (5sp vs 6sp, auto vs auto) and adds balanced handling to the equation...in other words...we'd probably get beat (all other things being equal).

As far as the M3 goes, unless its a stock E30 we'd have no chance.

Peace.
