Hood flutter after front end repair, have some ?

I just got my car back from hitting a deer about 4 weeks ago. I am now noticing that at highway speeds that I get extreme hood vibration. My question is since the hood was replaced and an OEM one was used as the replacement, does it seem likely that the reasons behind it are the same as the TSB or is it something else. I know Nissan fixed the issue after a certian date and I never had this problem before with my car. Do they make sure that all the hoods they distribute for collision work are free from the defect too or no? I guess I'm just curious as to whether this is an involved fix or something as simple as readjusting the hood. That being said, the hood looks to be lined up with everything else nicely. Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks, Matt

Because the joints that holds the top of the hood and hood sub frame is made of paper, most likely your joints are broken again on your new oem hood.

And no, they have not fix the problem after certain date because my '03 has massive hood vib at highway speed.

I just spent some time investigating a few of the joints near the area that I see excessive flutter and they look to be fine. I was almost hoping that was the issue since the fix was known. I don't really know where to go from here. Does anyone have any ideas on where to look next. All of this is very odd since I never had this problem before and the only thing that should have changed that I believe matters is the hood, though the entire radiator support was replaced after the accident along with the bumper.

The dealer did the TSB on mine. It is a lot better, but there is still room for improvement. Will have to play with the adjustment and see.

What I did to fix mine was bought a twin tube of the metal bond that they use at the factory and joined every seam of the entire hood. The hood was 99% better then before.

Did use the stuff available at Pepboys? I think its called permafix metal epoxy or something like that. I'm leaning toward this method of solving the problem, especially now that you have mentioned such good results with it.

the name of the stuff was a 3m product. The only bad part was that it was 2 part epoxy. Actually the same stuff at the factory. The bad part is that you need a special gun to apply it. I rented it off of a automotive refinisher. I added the link to the 3m website

Is there a reason why you used the 3M product over the Fusor #800 product that Nissan specifies in the Hood Vibration TSB? I've noticed that the Fusor stuff is 1/3 the cost of the 3M stuff so that may be the reason, but I was wondering if there was more I didn't pick up yet. In addition, did you have to prepare the area of application in any way? I believe with the Fusor stuff it is satisfactory if you apply on painted or primed surfaces. Is the same true with the 3M product or did you need to scuff the area before application. Also, how much stuff did you use? If there are any more details you might have, please let me know.

Thanks, Matt

Once you have eliminated any broken welds-adhesives between the hood and the underneath structures, try the following- it worked 100% for me.
Turn counterclockwise the rubber stops on both sides of the radiator crossmember, bout a 1/4 of a turn at a time, drive a while etc.
Secondly your latch mechanism is held to the centerpost with 2-3 (3 as I recall) 10 MM bolts- loosten
slide the mechanism down and retighten. A lot of people dont know that this is adjustable.

I noticed I had this too, when driving back home from LA to Seattle on cruise at like 70mph+

Took it into the dealer and of course they couldn't duplicate the problem...
