How many have changed their in cabin filter?

Nissan recommends replacing it every 15k miles or annually. I have had my car for 22 months now and almost 22k miles on it. I have not changed it yet. I believe that if you don't drive in dusty places, it should last longer than they say.

Yup, I too just washed the filter in soapy water and it came out pretty clean. I dont drive in dusty areas either, however the filter was very dirty, I was really surprised.

I changed mine when i bought the car back in september. the car had 50K on it, and i think the filter did too..the a/c stunk really bad, kind of a moldy smell. Replaced the filter and that solved the stink.

You will need to check behind your glove box to see if you have the slot for a filter.

From what I read in the 2k brochure, the in-cabin filter is listed as an additional accessory along with air bag anti-theft bolt, ashtray kit, battery warmer, cellular phone (in dash), chrome exhaust finisher, cigarette lighter element, engine block heater, gold badging, trunk convience net, trunk organizer, wheel cover and wheel locks.

I have a stock 2K GXE. It didn't come with a filter but you can add one. I did. Every 2K has the slot and housing for it. Also, not every one is washable. Many of the OEM filters are paper and not washable.

My 2000 GLE has never had one installed but I saw where it goes... you just need to pop out the plastic cap that covers the hole (our 2002 supercharged Xterra has one that I've changed so I knew what I was looking for). I'll probably put one in at the end of the winter.

Instructions to do so

I remember seeing somwhere the instructions to do this - taking
apart the glovebox etc to get at the filter.

With search not working, can someone either
1) write up the procedure - I remember there being a warning about
the passenger side airbag issue.

2) or point me/us to the procedure thread

thanks!

Courtesy Nissan has instructions - they also came with my filter. courtesyparts.com or

filterinstallation

It was a little confusing getting past step 1. The 2K GXE doesn't have a lower glove box finisher so I was looking everywhere for it. About 30-40 minutes work the first time. Would take about 15 minutes the second time.

You may not have the actual filter but should be able to buy and install one. There is probably a plate where your filter would go. You will have to remove your glove box to inspect it.http://www.courtesyparts.com/instruc...binfilter.html

Are you sure that was dirt? Some of them come with carbon imbedded in the media.

I just took mine out tonight. I held it up next to an old engine MAF filter and they are almost exactly the same. The engine air filter has a rubber gasket around it, that can be removed. The inside air filter has less width than the engine air filter, however the length is the same.

I wonder if there is an engine filter out there for another application (Ford, Toyota, etc) that you could get at pepboys to replace your inside air filter?

Mine had 4 numbers on it:

27274 4Y110
3S440 70110

What do those mean? There were no other part numbers (like the carbon one on courtesy's site)?

I also took mine out today. It has the same numbers as yours has. I don't what they mean except for a part number they used when they were making them at some time. I cleaned mine with Dawn and warm water. It had a lot of pine seeds in the pleats. There was some dirt that did not come out. I dried it under a fan on high speed and put it back in the car.

I am trying to install my mine now. I am also unable to locate the lower glove box finisher in step 1. I have a 2k1 SE. Does my car have this lower finisher?

The best way to tell is to look underneath your glovebox. If you see a screw on either side of the bottom like my 2k2, you don't have the finisher. There are 4 screws in the top and 2 in the bottom on the 2k2. There are also two clips at the top that hold it in place. You have to remove the ABS connector clip from the holes in the back of the glovebox and disconnect the light harness plug.

The Courtesy Nissan instructions call it an A/C filter...is that true? I thought it filtered all air hot/cold?

There is only 1 in-cabin filter that I know of in the newer Max. Even though they may refer to it as the A/C filter, it's the same animal.

I understand that. What I'm asking is "what does the filter...filter?" Only A/C or the hot too...

It filters the air coming from the outside of the car for the entire ventilation system.

Me neither and I have a 2002. Why are we missing this finisher that does not seem to be on 2000 - 2003?

I don't know. As long as the car works fine, I don't miss it one bit.

In-cabin microfilter

My 2k SE didn't come with an in-cabin microfilter so I went to the dealer, purchased one and dropped it right in. Your car does have a place behind the glove box for the filter. Go down and get yourself a filter, you deserve it.

I changed mine at 47K. Easy to do. All you need is a screwdriver.
