Saw a neglected 2K2 today

While at the Nissan dealer today, I saw a 2K2 on a lift with the engine and transmission out of it. I asked the tech what happened to it. He said that the owner drove it in and it had smoky exhaust. He also said that the oil had last been changed at a Nissan dealership around 8k miles. The engine had 24k miles on it when it was brought in smoking. I looked at the disasembled engine parts and saw a hell of a lot of sludge in the oil pan and on the baffle plate for the oil pan. He said that the owner expected Nissan to pay for it because he claims that he has been changing the oil. The tech said that he presented faked receipts for his oil changes. The car is still on the lift while Nissan decides if they will pay for it or not. I know that nobody in this forum would ever allow that to happen to their Maxs. What a shame.

Maybe the moron don't even know that you suppose to change the oil. He probably think a car that reliable doesn't need maintance. Probably some old goat.

I use a tripple syntetic oil in my max and change it every 5,000 miles. I talked to couple of techs and they said that with that oil I can easily do 7,500 miles do you guys think this is true?

Since when do Nissan techs know WTF they're talking about anyways?

8k on dino oil would be a bit long but you still shouldn't be having oil related break downs at that point. The service manual for the new Accords says you can go 7500 miles. That assumes mostly highway though. I think its 5k for "severe" driving.

I change my oil (conventional) every 5k miles. I do mostly highway driving. We use the same 5k miles interval on my job for our trucks and automotive equipment. I suppose you could go 7.5k miles on your synthetic as long as you have a good quality air and oil filter and you are not subjected to severe driving conditions.

These are also people that you don't want to park next to

I always seem to attract the people that don't car. I can park at the opposite end of the parking lot and still have the people that park so close that they must have trouble getting out of there car.
I don't get it they need a good talking to.

oil change 7500 miles!?

noo...it most likely says 3750 miles and not 7500--unless you have a canadian manual and it says 7500km

There are two different schedules in the service manual. Sched 1 is every 3750k miles or 6k km and sched 2 is every 7.5k miles or 12k kms. I have never gone to 7.5k on my Max. I change mine every 5k miles.

Yeah that's what i meant the Schedule 1 and 2 for the service...it's somewhere in the service manual. My bad for the confusion

He's right - one of the recommendations at least on my 00 is every 7500 miles depending on driving. I do a mix of highway and city and use mobil 1 syn and change very 6k miles. 3k is a terrible over kill for oil changes, especially if you're running synthetic.

My car was a lease car. I hope the owner never treated it like that guy above. 16k with dino is really stretch it.

probably owned by some 18-24 year old who races it on weekends, because they think it's a sports car, and fried it at the track and now wants Nissan to pay for his repairs.
