hid theft solution???

a couple of days ago, i recieved a letter from my friendly neighborhood nissan dealership saying that they could install some kind of theft deterrant system on the hid's. does anyone know what exactly this is or what kind of guarantees this has. if this is a repost im sorry but i never really paid attention to this matter until my hid's got stolen two days ago. any insight would be really helpful. thanks in advance.

Bro, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but if you live in NYC/NNJ and even southern CT, there is no hope for you and your beautiful HID's. Better get some AE headlights soon or this headache will never go away.

Anyone ever use a car cover to prevent HID theft? Seems like most thieves are knowledgeable enough to differentiate between stock HIDs and 2k and 2k1 lights. Seems like if a 5th Gen Max is covered whenever it's parked a thief won't know if there are HIDs under the cover. Moreover a cable lock will be an added deterent.

I realize if some thief follows you home, there's little you can do, but aside from the added hassle of putting the cover on and off, seems like a good idea.

Also I'm in Hawaii, so HID theft hasn't hit us yet, yet being the operative word. But it may be a good idea for you Northeast guys.

Good luck.

A car cover in the NE? Its illegal in NYS to use a car cover on your entire car while its parked in the streets. I hate to tell it to you but again let me say, there is NO HOPE. Talk to some guys on here who have been hit 3-4 times.

I didnt know that was illegal in NYS. I don't believe it's illegal in NJ, but I could be wrong.

my guess would be because it prevents cops from seeing if your registration/inspection is current. One of a NYC traffic cop's favorite passtimes is writing tickets for expired reg/inspection. Covering your car keeps them from their fun

Those are some good examples but then again think of being involved in a hit & run, or some other kind of criminal act using your car (like the getaway car) then was able to use a car cover to completely cover it. Not cool, right?
Keep in mind I said it is only illegal if your vehicle is parked in the streets. Not if it's on your property. I am almost certain using a car cover on the streets in any state would be illegal since it would hinder law enforcement.
Did you know that walking around with your face completely covered is also illegal in NYS? Of course, some exceptions are made for religious practices.

Actually I did know that! I found that out first hand one winter when I walked into a bank wearing a ski mask. I was a little kid, I didn't realize it would freak people out
