Just wondering...
Does anyone happen to have an Optima Red Top battery in their
02 Maxima? If so, which one did you use, and was there any problem
with "shoe-horning" it in there?
Thanks for the input!

None of those, still with my original OEM battery. Hasn't given any trouble with 27k miles logged on it.

Does anyone know what the difference is between the Optima Yellow and Red tops? Looks like the Red tops are a bit more expensive than the Yellow. Why is that?

ps
For you Yellow toppers out there...
do you remember what size you got?
(35? 24f?)

Yellow top is a deep cycle battery. The yellow top is more expensive from what I remember. Deep cycle means its gonna take a little while for it to drain. Basically I can park my car & bump in a parking lot for a while & still be alright while normal batteries will drain after a short while.
The model # is 34 last I checked. The only weird thing is the posts are reveresed. You can obviously work your way around that.

I can bump mine for almost an hour at full blast, and when I drain it, just give it 10 minutes and it fires itself back up ! I run one set of posts for the car, and the other set goes to amps...

I wish I had two like you !

Optima Red Top

I have 80K on my 2000 Maxima and decided the old battery needed to be retired. I've done my share of leaving the lights on overnight. Surprisingly the stock battery still ran pretty well but I saw the Optima red top was a good performer. I had to buy a 5 inch battery terminal extender and hook it up to the positve post. The stock Max terminal has this housing thats forms a right angle that won't fit easily on the Red top. This was an easy fix and the Optima runs Beautiful. Do the Red top. You won't regret it.

If you have a system or are planning on it YT is the best choice. If you want just a basic upgrade then RT. Plain & simple.

Like Hitman said, if you dont ever want to worry about a dead battery , since you have no system.... get a yellowtop....its worth the peace of mind. You can leave all the lights on and walk away for a week.... and it still wont be completely dead !

I got the smaller sized Red Top. Still plenty of power and CCA and the posts are closer to the edge so I didn't have to bend the + connector or add an extender.

Optima Yellow top

I purchesed the yellow top battery and put it in, from the jump I noticed:

1. It's not the same height as my stock battery, so the stock battery tiedowns were no good
2. The post was to far from the edge, so my positive connection would have to be modified, by either cutting the wires and using one of the aftermarket terminals for car audio or bend that stupid stock L bracket some kind of way to make it fit ...Does any one know off hand what that stupid fuse is for anyway on the positive bracket?
3. I diddn't want to deal with all that! So after all that I bought A= Energizer form Pep Boys it works

I had my stock battery replaced under warranty 2 months after I bought the car. The b&tch was leaking acid all over the place.

I had a yellow top with a cap on my last system with my 2 400 watt amps and had no problems. I am sure Kloogy isn't have a problem.

Bluesbrekr,
what's the part # of the Red top that you have in your car? The battery in my truck just died, so I'm gonna buy an Optima for the max and put the OEM battery from my max into the truck.
