Duplicate Key for 2001 MAxima

Hi guys. I have a quick question. I lost one of ym keys for my car, and since I am going to install a remote start alarm I need to give one of my keys to do it. That is going to leave me with one key which is not good.

I found a site http://www.nvo.com/chipkeys/nissankeys/ that sells the key for $19.

My quesiton is. Has any1 purchased this fomr them? And is this the key that I need?

Im thinking of getting this key, getting it cut; Then going to the dealer saying that the key stopped working for some reason, and they should recode it for free, no?

Will this work?

cannot say weather the key would work or not, however im not sure if they will belive the "key stopped working story"... take a look at your key, look at how many scratches nicks and dings it has... now do you think a dealer will believe that an untouched unharmed key ever worked?? i'm just looking at this from the dealers perspective... also, the dealeship i work at, you buy the key, and they dont charge to code it, however that might just be just this one particular dealer. juss call them and ask them, it wont hurt...

Well it could be my spare key.... Plus the key online is only $20 where as at the dealer it would be much more...

My price on the key is $25.85, list was $39.something ... The parts guy said anyone can "cut" the key, but in order to program the keys, you have to have all your keys REprogramed in the car all at once. A bit similar to garage door openers, when you code a new remote, you have to recode all the current remotes too...

I hope this helps...

Ok guys. I just got my key in. So any1 know how much its going to cost at the dealer just to program it? I can have it cut for a couple of bucks at a local locksmith so that the dealer would just reprogram it.

By the way desprado did u order the keys from the website that I specified? Because my key doesnt seem to have that blue chip showing next to the metal... Maybe its inside somewhere.

they should not charge you much, its a very simple tasks and takes a few minutes, but then again that does depend on your local dealer... just make sure when you take it in, you take all keys with you...

Hi Guys, the local dealer here in Ontario Canada wanted 110 for the key and 45 to reprogram.
You guys are getting a good deal if you can get it for 20 -25 bucks.
