Side Molding Removal

How do you remove the front door side molding? Just pop it out? I need to sand it down and get it repainted thanks to some careless **** who turned too quick backing out of a parking lot. Scraped my entire front door; more damage to my molding than the door but still, scratches are very noticeable

The strips that run on the side of the doors are replaceable and come pre painted. Mine cost about $110 with tax. They are held on with double sided tape and two plastic clips which just pop off. All you have to do is carefully pry of the strip and then the door has to be cleaned well. I had a lot of tape still stuck on the door that was a real pain in th a** to clean off , but must be done. The new one just sticks on. Hope this helps

3M Adhesive, Tar and Wax remover works well on removing the sticky residue after you get the tape off. It also softens the tape so you can scrape it off with a plastic scraper or your fingernails.

I wasn't planning on buying new molding. I was just going to repaint it at home.

What grade sandpaper should I use to strip the paint or should I just spray paint over my old paint?

It all depends on how good you want it to look. Spray paint won't match, plus the gloss will be different. If the the scratches are deep in the plastic molding, good luck trying to sand those out.

I got some spray paint from paintscratch.com for my other car. My dad couldn't tell the difference.

As long as you can lay paint smoothly, you shouldn't have a problem. I just didn't want to mess with all that.
