Courtesy STB

I have a 2k Max SE I'm trying to figure out what STB to buy. I don't want to spend alot. The Courtesy Strut tower brace is about $60, but I hear that I have to cut off part of a screw attachment to get it on. Is that true? Does Coutesy now have a STB made specifically for the 00 that doesn't require cutting something (the article I saw could be using a gen 4 stb on a gen 5 max, I don't know)? Peep this page--> http://home.earthlink.net/~maxfaq/stb/#install

ive got a fstb for my 01 from courtesy and it required no modification to the bar at all. complete direct fit. just remember to torque around 35lbs and do it on level ground as possible. i have seen some get them from ebay for cheaper and some actually looked better so you may want to take a look there.

I recently purchased an Otto Racing FSTB from Southwest Auto Works for $50 shipped. It fit my 2K GLE without any modifications. Don't know if that 'special' is still going on, but they seem to give better pricing to org members who call. Call Steve at 602-795-1800 or send him an e-mail at steve@southwestautoworks.com.

thanks sloppymax and DanL

Thanks this helps. Yeah it seemed weird that I would have to cut anything, that just didn't seem right. I have also seen the OTTO on Ebay and it's cheaper than the courtesy. I might get that one.

I used to have a Courtesy FSTB, and it fit perfectly. No problems. I now have a Stillen FSTB, only for aesthetic reasons...

So you don't notice any performance differences between the two?

Its just a metal bar that stiffens the front end up.

This one on my car was off of Ebay, and when I got it a little over a year ago, I spent $25.00, shipped. I haven't had any problems with it, and it does what its supposed to do.

Is this the one you got?

Has anyone else had any experience with this one?

Thanks,

Jason

It sure does look like mine, but I believe mine was a different 'brand', (although they are all generic anyway ).

Sorry to beat a dead thread, but is the OTTO Racing FSTB adjustable? If not is that normally an issue, I would think that as long as your frame's not bent you wouldn't need an adjustable one right?

No modification required and No manifold clearance issues with the Courtesy FSTB. Just make sure you get the right one, and you're fine.

Thanks for the reply about the Courtesy bar but now I'm leaning towards that OTTO bar and am wondering about the adjustability of that bar.

Yes it is. Take a look at the following and you'll see the slot on the left side is elongated:
