Did the dealer rip me off?

I have a 2000 maxima se auto. It has 62000 miles and has a 100000 warranty. The valves had been rattling very badly and the taillights and brake lights keep going out. Took it there the did something to the lights and got them working and they flushed the valves with something. All of this cost 200 bux because the said the warranty does not cover the lights and that the valves are supposed to be flushed every 36000 miles.

Shouldnt my warranty have atleast covered the lights?

IF it is the 100K mile bumper to bumper wawrranty, I would think that everything form one bumper to the other would be covered. But there is always that fine print that will get ya.

The warranty will not cover the bulbs themselves, but if there is a voltage problem causing them to blow then that should be covered. As far as valves go..... "flushing"??? It sounds like he is trying to sell you something. Look in your maintenene schedule, it doesn't say anything about the valves, so the dealer is full of

That was probably a fuel injector cleaning. I don't think it's required at 36k miles though. It was just a way for them to get mo money from you.

*Edit*
Since you said that your vavles were rattling, they probably thought that cleaning the fuel system would help that condition. BG makes fuel system maintenance products.

looks like they just fixed the lights and cleaned the injectors.. neither would be covered by warranty since they're 'maintenance' items. the labor charge is HUGE ($97 to replace some bulbs and a fuse? wtf) but that's the only problem I see with it.

Did you sign an estimate of some sort before they began the work? If not, they can't charge you after the fact if they decide to do non-warranty work without your permission.

From your receipt, it looks like they charged you 1.5 hours of labor to replace a brake light and a fuse. A monkey with a screwdriver could probably figure out the same job in about 20 minutes. They also charged you quite a bit of labor for the fuel injector service, assuming they just dumped a can of BG44k into the tank. If they did an actual "flush" or something it might be more reasonable.

Did the service fix the valve clatter/knocking?

The lights had been replaced once and they went out again. So it was taken over there and they could not figure out what was wrong with it but they replaced the lights and fuse. I think they are still working.

They said they blew the valves out. I have not heard them knocking again.

I do not remeber sigining an estimate but I think I did sign something not sure what it was.

could I take the car over there and make them fix some stuff off of this list and it not cost anything??

http://www.alldata.com/TSB/41/00416289.html

drivers window squeaks
back door sqeaks
trunk lid scratches bumper (it had to be replaced because it got hit)
I think the transmisson slips too. If I get on it really hard sometimes it will act like it is in netural??
the back passanger window does not stay up all the way. I can roll it up then like 30 mins later pull the switch up and it will go up a little
sometimes the subwoofer will not work

problems that I had before that I think they ripped me on are

The rotars were messed up (shook when put brakes on at high speeds) told me the warranty would not cover. I think I read that on the website
One time the AC was clicking and it went out took it over there and they said they did not hear it but the said they found a piece of paper in it and charged me $79. It still clicks but they do not hear anything

So can I take it over there and they fix that stuff up top for free? I think they will charge me a bunch for the subwoofer but hasnt all that other stuff been recalled or something?

It probably depends on the details of your extended warranty. You should have what is covered and what is not covered spelled out in the warranty information.

yeah, there was a tsb for the bumper scratches and the rotors. i don't think you'll get it fixed for free though.

some idea:

<drivers window squeaks>
if you pay to have this fixed, you're a putz. try some lubricant on your rubber piece on your door.

<back door sqeaks>
wd40?

<tranny slipping>
that'll be covered with your drivetrain warranty.

<air cond>
grow a sac, and make them FIX it. you paid for it.
