No. The ban on HID is for aftermarket sale of HID kits and retrofits. Cars can still be factory equipped with HID.

I've heard that the highway commission (whatever the acronym is) is trying to place the ban on factory HID also....especially with the SUV's (like the X5)

There were 7000 complaints in 2003 alone from HID's about them blinding people and causing accidents. The majority of these cars were probably aftermarket HID's. I heard it on ABC 7 two weeks ago.

I wonder how many halogen caused when they were new... give it two or three years and people won't even notice them any more.

It's not cars like ours that are the problems....i don't know what maximas have stock but my TL has 4100k and they are bright but no where near as bright as i've seen others...i've seen some older lincolns that had 8000k's now those are blinding.

I wonder what was the average age of the drivers involved in those accidents. I bet it was like 75+.... You get the point?

The bright ones I see are the Honda S2000 stock HIDs. They look pretty but bright as sh#t.

S2000's are so low and their HID's are aimed pretty high.....

They should....I was driving the other night on a 2-lane back road (through a wooded area) and what I think was an X5 comes around the corner, HIDs right in my face. That is a DARK road and I couldn't see **** for about 10 seconds afterwards....had to slow down to like 25 so I didn't go off the road.

I have no problem with HIDs in general, but I think ALL cars, trucks, whatever should have their lights down low (regardless of HID or halogen), down about the level of an average car......nothing more annoying than some huge-a s s SUV driving behind you with his regular beams right through the back window.

All headlights should be no higher than like 3 feet off the ground (how high is the maxima - 2 1/2 ft?).....yeah it might look a little stupid on big-a s s SUVs and stuff....but then again I don't really care about them, I care about us people who drive cars...

Just a note, maximas have the lower part of the bulb blocked or something like that so that the light doesnt shine upward. Alot of other HID's radiate upward and downward, upward part blinding oncomig traffic. I Think Nissan thought this through, and was trying to be responsible.
