5th gen remote start...
Anyone know if there is a remote starter available for a 2k Max with 5speed (stick shift)? I suppose it might be difficult due to the chip in the key and all that, and also on a stick shift....anyone know anything?

The chip in the key is routinely bypassed with the 555U bypass module from DEI (company that makes viper). And that module works with any remote start system if you hook it up right. As far as the stick shift, I think it's illegal to hook up a remote start to that, but there's definitely ways to do it and you can find an installer thats willing to do it fairly easily.

so if the chip in the key is bypassed by the module, does that mean that i can buy a blank key and have it cut and it'll work without being programmed?

If you hook the module up right, then no. The circuit containing the bypass is only activated when the system gets the remote start command. At all other times, the system needs a signal from the ignition key as usual. If you want to save the cash from programming the key, you could hook up the bypass to always be active, but then of course you're getting rid of the security of the chip system.

You may have a problem with the stick shift because most installers don't want the liability of you making the mistake and leaving the car in gear the try to start it, and run over someone. It can be done by bypassing the clutch but you'll have to find a friend to do it or figure how to do it yourself.

There is someone who have manual tranny and remote start at the same time. Don installed most of the parts, but the last step has to be done by the owner, I think. I don't remember since it was a long time ago.

Almost any add on remote start should work on the max but you need to give up one of your keys (valet) permanently to be enclosed in the bypass module. As for the stick shift, I'm not sure on the 2k's but on the 2k2's there is gear sense wire on the ECM that can be used by the RS unit in conjunction with the clutch bypass that detects if tranny is in gear or in neutral. Depends if your installer is willing to make the effort.

Check out
www.compustar.org
I think it might have the longest range of any remote starters
out there because it uses 2.4ghz instead of 900mhz or radio frequencies.
Anyhoo...works great with my 02 Maxima SE.

i have the compustar alarm....and what we did was we wrapeed the valet key w/ a copper wire and then ran it inside the column and wrapped the keyhole on the inside of the column, so it transmitted the signal from the chip to the wire and tricked the computer that the key was inside the keyhole.... that worked for me....
