Hid Theft Crackdown

Hid Theft Crackdown
Finally, the Northern California police are cracking down on recent spurts of HID thefts in the Bay Area, especially concentrating in the San Francisco, Santa Clara, San Jose, and Oakland areas. As you all may know, the East Coast was primarily hit, with nearly 19 headlights stolen per week on average, and has since spread to the Bay Area. Last week, the San Jose police made 3 arrests when they received low-profile warrants from the Superior Court for a search and seizure in three homes in the Blossom Hill area. It has been reported that the Financial District of San Francisco has had over 30 cases of stolen HID xenons which could very possibly be the work of one person. On another note, a positive one, the use of DataDots has been prevalent in the 02-03 maximas, which in the case of selling these headlights which are stolen, the police would be able to track the suspect by radar. Here in the south bay, nearly 60 stolen hid kits have been reported and 9 arrests have been made. 3 of these theifs have already been charged within the past month.
Finally, the lights that we worked so hard to get will be safe. We can all have peace of mind at this point after so many HID thefts. The criminals who steal our lights are now being punished.

That is great news (insofar as arresting and punishing the HID thieves). Do you know whether the jacked HIDs come from 02-03 Max?
You mentioned that the police can track the stolen HIDs that are protected by DataDots by means of radar. How? I thought DD only enables the police to trace the HIDs to the registered car owner. Do DD send out signals that can be detected by radar? Please advise.

I think what he means by "radar" is the proximity sensor for the tiny RF transmitters in the DataDots. So you could read the VIN from the DataDots with a wand or some such close proximity sensor. Obviously this isn't lo-jack or on-star for your HIDs, nor GPS tracking of every HID on earth.
