30,000-mile service recommendation
30,000-mile service recommendation
My Maxima just recently passed the 30k mark, and Nissan's website gives me the following service recommendation:
30000 Replace Engine oil Oil and air filters Engine coolant In-cabin microfilter (if equipped) PCV filter Limited-slip differential oil Rotate tires Inspect Brake pads, rotors, drums (Correct/Replace, and linings If Necessary) Brake lines and cables Exhaust system Manual transmission oil Transmission fluid Differential oil Engine drive belts Fuel lines/connections
Is it recommended that I take care of these things? I've read in several threads about getting the microfilter cleaned or replaced, but I'm not sure about the rest. Also, is any or all of this covered by the 3-year, 36k warranty? If not, should I have these things done elsewhere?
Thanks for the input!

Not sure how much they're asking for, but things you can't do yourself, I'd just bring to a local mechanic and have them done. Dealerships make a KILLING on people paying for these big 30k, 60k, etc. maintenance jobs and if you read through the lists of all of the millions of things they'll do, most of it's just filler and crap and other than one or two lubricant changes, and a radiator flush it's just stuff you can do in a few minutes.

Can't tell what year Max you have, but the dealer service intervals are not cheap considering what you get. I think the 30K is like 200 greenbacks.
Many local garages (if you know of one you trust like I do) will price out the same service based on Nissan's requirements. My guy comes up about 40% less on cost and actually ends up doing more from me. In the event a warrantee issue comes up you'll have the reciept to prove you kept the vehicle up.
Just a suggestion... Why pay the local STEALER more $

Agree with everyone else: the dealers SERVICE specials are all Smoke and Mirrors with a few necessary items thrown in to keep it looking good.
Stick to the service manual recommendations (you'll notice that the dealer recommendations usally DON'T, as if THEY know better than the Nissan?!) do the easy stuff yourself, and have your local mechanic perform the stuff you don't / can't do.
18k and no dealer servicings yet. Still running as well as the day I drove it off the lot....minus the brake jutter.

I was looking over the same thing for the 30k mile service since mine is going to be coming up soon. if it's gonna be around 200 bucks that's not bad, But what I have in my area, they gave me a service menu what they perform on and guess what's the cost here? It's freaking $385 buckaroo......Now that's a lot and a rip off.

These major service intervals are a great way for the stealers to get your money, whether it's nissan, chevy, or honda. They really play on people's fears, as if you're mistreating your car by not paying $400 for them to "check the brakes" and "Check condition of wipers".
