Drilled Pedal -- A new solution?

I came across this while browsing a G35 site:

http://www.infinitiwholesaleparts.co...scPage_1.chtml

Check out the install.

http://www.smiley.net/g35/pedals.htm

The parts are all the same, but pay attention to the gas pedal. On the G35, the gas pedal has a removable snap on the back that holds the pedal to the metal arm. On our cars, there is no snap the plastic pedal is affixed permanently to the metal arm.

(note: the clip is at the bottom right of this picture on the back of the pedal)

If you could cut the gas pedal off the bar, would this work? Is the metal bar that makes up the pedal arm the same diameter on the G35 as the Maxima?

What i did was actually cut the clip off, wrap some black tape around the metal bar and re-clipped my new pedal in place. Worked fine for me. I just used a box cutter to cut along the edge of the where the clip was connected to the old pedal.

Did you use the same pedal/kit? It looks like the one from this kit will latch on in place after you cut the old one off...but I'm not sure if the diameter of the arm is the same.

Not sure exactly what "kit" i used, i just went to the nissan dealer and the guy at the parts counter ordered me the AE pedals. They both came in a clear plastic shrink wrapped bag, no instructions, just my name on the label.

get the pedals for the HSLD or the AE Maxima and put them on for the gas pedal just use a little bit of Electric tape around the bushing so it will fit tightly

its very simple

No, I meant does the AE pedal snap on like the ones here or are these different?

Wrong! Unless there is some difference between the 2k2 and 2k3 which I'm not aware of. I put the AE pedals in my 2k3 months ago, the gas pedal snaps right off of the metal arm. All you need is a small flathead screwdriver to pop the clip which holds it in place, it literally takes 5 seconds.

jeepik is right...all you need is a little electric tape around the arm since the 2k/2k1 arms were slightly bigger in diameter. No cutting or drilling is involved.

Edit - 2002 Maxima SE...I just looked at the pix in your last post and they are 100% exactly the same as our gas pedal assemblies. The install on a Max would follow right along except for the electric tape part that jeepik mentioned.

OK, so the 2k2-2k3 gas pedal can be pried off and does not have to be cut off.

So, the gas pedal in the pic is the 2k1 AE gas pedal being applied to the G35. Is the G35 arm the same diameter as 2k1 (why do they not use tape?). Just curious.

Also, based on what you spent for the gas pedal, brake pedal and dead pedal...is the $65 dollar price (clips included) from the website I listed a good deal or would it be cheaper to get all the pieces from DaveB?

Thanks for all the replies.

Yes and no, there is no "snap" on the AE pedals....the pictures you have in the link ARE how they come. Like posted above...you should be fine with using some tape and putting some on where the bar passes through the new pedal. I took it a step further and cut out the old "snap" from my old pedal to make it snap into the new one, just to make it that much tighter. I'll see if i can take some pictures this week if you want. Hope this helps.....let me know if you want pics.

Manz,

Thanks! Yes please send some pics.

Also, the pedals must be different even though they look the same. Here they are on courtesy's site with a BIG difference in price:

350Z

Maxima

For your other question...I'm now confused again. The site I listed shows all the parts he used, including some clips that were ordered seperately see picture of parts here:

Parts

Are you saying that you did not order the clip, which would explain why tape was necessary? I see you said that you used your existing clip, but do you think the clip in the picture (Parts) would alleviate that and the tape?

You got it...not cutting or anything like that. All you need is a small flathead screwdriver and maybe 1-2 feet of electric tape to install AE pedals. I've never looked that closely at a G35 arm so I can't say whether they are the same or not. The difference between the 2k/2k1 and 2k2/2k3 diameter is not alot...you could put the AE pedal on a 2k2/2k3 with no tape and you would be fine...it would just have a little wiggle to it. I just wrapped some tape to tighten up the feel.

$65 sounds like a good price for the whole set...assuming you are getting the gas, brake and 350z dead pedal for that price. Here's where I bought mine from:

http://www.courtesyparts.com/secondtier_a33.html

The dead pedal is under the 350z section.

There is a clip on the AE pedal...you can even see it in the pictures 2002 linked above. Everything is the same...all you need to do is swap them. There is no need to cut clips or snaps or anything like that.

#1 - Pop the clip, remove OEM pedal
#2 - Wrap bar with electric tape 2-3x around
#3 - Put AE pedal on and reinstall clip

Simple as that.

I think I see what everyone did...they used tape to get the two "ends" on the pedal to squeeze the tape. Had they ordered part#18014-8H601 or 18014-AB000 (can't tell which one is the clip) you don't need tape...the clip will secure it to the arm.

The 350 pedal comes with the pedal and bracket that's why they're so expensive. The pedal i bought just came with the metal pedal, nothing else. I didn't know they sold the clip. Guess that would alleviate the tape and cutting the stock clip off. To be honest with you i bought my pedals at my local dealer....i think they were less than $40 and the 350 dead pedal was like $10 or something. I can't remember the exact price right now, they weren't expensive at all. I'll see if i can get a good pic of my pedal tonight. I've heard DaveB always has good prices....plus he'll be able to order you the right parts.
