THose with custom leather step in........

For those who put custom leather in yourself,
how did you do the door panel inserts?

Ive been laggin on doing those for 6 months. WHats the strategy to do the panels?
They dont come off...

I was going to put my own in, but it looked like a royal PITA and it was something I wanted done right, so I had it done professionally.

I've been lagging on this for OVER 1 YEAR! When I was down in LA this past summer, I found a place that quoted me something like $150 to do all 4. It was on in South Pasadena near where I was staying. I'll try and get you the info. if you're interested.

Andy: how much did you pay?

I'm thinking of getting some custom leather.. if the install for just the panels is that much, I'd rather not think about the install for a total package.

it is not really hard all you need is some glue onto the door panel, then take a pizza slicer onto the door panels cut it and then tuck it in,

Just make sure that you use the Green label 3M glue. Cheaper glue will peel off if its hot outside. There are tips on Leatherseats.com page. Be careful cutting the panels so that you do not cut too much. I fuked up on one but the rest turned out good after I learned my lesson. Too lazy to re-do the other one. Major PITA but still better than paying hundreds to let someone else do it.

btw. The install for the seats really isn't that bad. Just don't expect to be done in a day or without a few scratches but if you take your time, it can be done well. I have a crappy pic on my page of how it turned out.

I bought the install kit from Leatherseats.com when i bought my kit. They included some (I think cheap) DAP adhesive spray...guess I shouldn't use that huh?

I installed the seats fine, just took some time...

$1000 installed. I am assuming installation was around $400. That seems like a lot, but apparently it's a 3-4 hour job.

If you live in a cold region, do it in the winter. The leather can shrink when it is really cold out and can pull off of the door. But if you put it on cold, then hopefully it won't happen.

Katzkin charges something like $1100 with installation for the interior that I have. If I can do the door panels myself, I'll have saved a total of something like $500. I may cave in and have the doors professional installed though...
