Is the 15K mile service worth it?

I tried to "search" for this topic, but i got e-yelled at...

I am debating about getting it done and was wondering:

1.) is it worth it?
2.) if you had it done, what did it cost you?

I read over the things that are replaced/inspected/rotated. I havent called my stealership service dept yet, but i am having the sensor recall done and the two lack o'power TSBs done next week. Since the car is already there, i would just have them do it. I know it is not required for warranty purposes. I can only imagine what the price is

It would be at Lynne's Nissan in Bloomfield, quite possibly the worst dealership in NA.

Thanks in advance.

actually i found this on their site...

MAX PACKAGE - 15,000 MILE SERVICE Includes, Change Engine Oil and Filter, Tire Rotation and Wheel Balance, Replace Air Filter, Battery Service, Multi-Point Inspection, Fuel Injection Service, Lubricate Locks, Latches and Hinges

$276

MINI PACKAGE - 15,000 MILE SERVICE Includes, Change Engine Oil and Filter, Tire Rotation and Wheel Balance, Replace Air Filter, Battery Service, Multi-Point Inspection, Fuel Injection Service, Lubricate Locks, Latches and Hinges (Also due at 45K, 75K and 105K miles)

$259

Its the same damn thing.... HATE THEM

My local dealer in Los Angeles charges about $190. I had it done and regretted it. If you see the list of things they do, you'll laugh. It's mostly inspect this and inspect that. All they really do is oil change, oil filter, air filter and tire rotation. Check this out: http://www.westates.net/miller_nissa...ssan_serv1.htm

NEVER DO DEALER SUGGESTED SERVICES!!!!!!

Here's is what you do as far as maintenance, assuming your car doesn't have special mods and isn't driven excessively hard:

1.Change oil every 3,000 miles
2.Change coolant every 2 years(or every year if it makes you feel better)
3.Follow the maintence recommended in the OWNERS MANUAL-there's not much more there than changing oil, coolant, and tranny fluid. Most things are inspections you can do yourself.
4.Replace wear items(i.e.Brake pads, tires) as needed.
5.Replace parts that break as needed.

That's all the maintenance you'll EVER need.

Not worth it at all. Pay me $150 and I'll do the same service in under an hour.

Or find a independent shop that you can trust and most of the time they can do it for much less compare to Dealer service department.

Why do hate Lynnes so much....I've been going there since 6000miles for oil changes and so far, so good...the have decent service. What have they done to you?

I got the didn't get the 15k service done by them, but they still charged me $130 for the injector service, which i asked for...I think a can of BG44K would've done the same! (I WAS GIVEN THE PROVERBEAL LUBE JOB)....Unless you want a diagnostic done, warranty work done or complain and have a record of it, most of the other things can be done somewhere you trust, say like oil change, injector service, fluid flush...Dealers really give owners the SHAFT!...I'll be looking for a place to do a tranny flush soon....So, if the dealer price is comparable to somewhere else, say $40 off, I would probably stick with the dealer...

Take home point...SHOP AROUND AND ASK THE SERVICE MANAGER ABOUT THE SERVICE AND TELL THEM YOU SAW THE SAME SERVICE FOR THIS MUCH LESS AT <BIG NAME SERVICE PLACE>....If your not comforable DON'T GET THE SERVICE DONE!!!....

Only if you ever plan on having something repaired under warranty. No proof of service may void the warranty on certain parts of your vehicle.

Holy hell no. Bring your car to a local shop, give them that list, and they'll charge a fraction of it. Here is what it really entails:

Change Engine Oil and Filter: $22 done at my local stealership

Tire Rotation and Wheel Balance: Doubt your wheels need rebalancing. Eitherway a rotation and balancing shouldn't cost more than $25 (you can rotate yourself with a pair jackstands)

Replace Air Filter: $10 part. 30 second (literally) job.

Battery Service: Bring it to autozone, get that done for free.

Multi-Point Inspection: I would be surprised if the mechanic takes more than 4 minutes doing this.

Fuel Injection Service: They'll probably throw in a $20 can of BG44k

Lubricate Locks: Do it yourself!

Latches and Hinges: Dito!

So, $250+ for like $30 in materials and 30 minutes labor + the $22 oil change.

Ask your dealer if he can itemize the cost of the 15k and you'll pay him like that

"Only if you ever plan on having something repaired under warranty. No proof of service may void the warranty on certain parts of your vehicle.
" The warranty requires explicit maintenance done. You can do it all yourself or pay an independent mechanic to do it. Eitherway get receipts. One most definitely doesn't have to get DEALER RECOMMENDED maintenance done. Merely do what's in the manual.

Print yourself a 15k service receipt and call it a day. You can even charge yourself for labor if it makes you feel better, lol.

"lubricate locks and hinges", what the heck is that. This is no 1956 Chevrolet. Are they talking about the keyhole in my door and trunk I have never used in the 3+ years I've owned the car? As for the hinges, they will be lubricated when they start squeaking and not a minute sooner!

Yeah seriously After I bought my max with 37k miles, not long at all afterwards my wife had it at the dealership - I can't remember why - and while she was there the driver's side door stopped opening from the inside; she had to leave out the right. The guy there said that it would need a new lock assembly for something in the ballpark of $300. I said no to that idea and later that night lubed up everything in there with WD40. Not even sure that WD40 is the right lubricant to use (probably a silicon over a carbon based would be better). But, either way it's been almost 30k miles since and that lock works like a charm every time. $300 my ***!
