I have seen what an engine looks like when the cap isn't put back on - my roommate did it once when doing his own oil. This is a mess and can adversely affect parts of the engine (electrical, etc...) You need to go back there and 1. get your money back. 2. Insist they pay to have your engine professionally cleaned and 3. if nothing else works, go to the better business bureau, ASE, and perhaps sue them. This is ridiculous for an oil change place to forget to put the cap on!

Get the engine compartment steam cleaned. Degreaser does not clean as good as a steam cleaner.

first mistake, you let a quick lube place touch your car. your second one was not looking it over after they gave you the car. did they at least give you the cap back or did they leave it in the shop?

right now you have two problems.. one is obviosly cleaning the mess, the 2nd is figuring how much oil ran out and if there is any damage to the engine due to low oil.

i would sue the idiots, especially if the oil cap is in their shop.

I guess as long as the oil warning light did not come on, there's not much damage done to the engine since he found out about this not long after.

There is no excuse for them to have done this. See the manager and get them to clean the mess and reimburse you for the oil change.

take your car back and complain. If they don't cooperate, sue them.

Yeah, how stupid can they be, if the cap is in the shop, they have no excuse. Don't let them low ball you by giving you a free oil change next time or trying to make it seem like its your fault. Take action, sue!

they may just say that they don't have the cap...

you might want to take pics and video of the whole fiasco with oil splattering all over the engine bay. they will come in handy when you're in court.

that definitely suck big time

I took it back today, they refunded my money and cleaned it all up with a degreaser. They maid it seem like it was a routine thing by not even saying sorry. they were like "ok bring it in and well check everything out and clean it up for you." but about the cap it was still laying on the engine block when i found out the night of the disaster(last night). this morning i looked at the engine only the back left was oily and that part of the hood. I would love to sue so these fuc*#s so they dont do this to anyone else but i dont have the time and the knowbouts of suing. thanks all for the input.
