What the HELL is going on with it I keep hearing this and that. I hear the new engine isn't coming out until 2003, and I hear it is coming out in 2002. What is really going on?. I suspect people really Know what is going on but don't want to say anything(on this board) this is making me sick. This isn't a good thing guys because people always post whether or not they should wait for the 2002 or by a passat, or cl's and the tl's and end up buying it . Imagine if we knew that the maxima was coming out, we wouldn't even compare it to those cars or worry about getting them. One time I posted at acuratl.com and talked about it and it got everyone's attention and some of them considered buying it if it came out. If we all knew what was going on with the 2002 then nissan would sell much more cars. COME ON YOU NISSAN DEALERS JUST TELL US. HOW WOULD NISSAN KNOW WHO LEAKED OUT THE INFORMATION. I REST MY CASE

The new engine is coming out in 2002 as a 2003 model.

The way I look at it, every one in this forum owns a Maxima less than 2 years old and half of us have enough mods to open a performance parts store. Assuming the new engine debuts in the summer of 2002, the availability won't be there for most of us to buy until the late fall. Even then they won't be negotiting much on prices, and it would make more sense to wait until after New Years of 2003 to buy. By 2003 we will all have 3-4 year old cars, and that would give of just cause to BI**CH about it. Until then, lets just enjoy what we have.

Actually ur not exactly correct. The new engine is coming out in the 2002 model, not 2003. The new body will be out in 2003.

Well if Nissan anounced when and where the new 3.5 liter maximas were coming out, why in hell would anyone buy the current one? Kinda self defeating isn't it?

That's the reason why Nissan won't annouce it. So they don't lose sales on these 2001 models. Only a few sources know it will have the new engine, so expect it to be out julyish...

INFO ON 2002 MAXIMA STRAIGHT FROM NISSAN

(from Kurt Von Zumwalt, Director, Product and Consumer PR, kurt.vonzumwalt@nissan-usa.com)

ME: I was inquiring about the availability or at least the announcement of availability and specs on the 2002 Maxima. I am interested in purchasing a 2001 but I'd like to get a flavor for what I could get in a 2002. I was told that I should wait for the NY Auto Show. Is this correct?

KURT: The 2002 Maxima will go on sale in August. The star of the N.Y. auto show for Nissan will be the all new Altima....much bigger, better, 4 & 6 cylinder, etc. We won't be talking much about the Maxima until next summer.
We will, however, introduce the 2002 Infiniti I30 at the N.Y. show that will give you a pretty good idea of where the Maxima is going dynamically. No big sheet metal changes but a significant power enhancement. That's about all I can say at this point.

ME: The Navigation system on the I30, will there be an option for it on the 2002 Maxima?

KURT: Not for general release yet but the navi will be available on '02 Maxima as an option on selected models.
