Intake/MAF

Hey guys, I've been reading these boards for about 5 months now but this is my first post. I finally got my Frankencar intake the other day (really wish i went with Berk now) and installed it at my friends house. Everything went smoothly untill we realized they forgot to send us the MAF adapter! We had to fabricate something out of the piece from the stock airbox, what a pain. I don't think I want to bother with bugging them to send me a new adapter, because they probably won't answer my 3rd+ email anyway. The funny thing is, I was sick of them not replying to me so I stopped payment through my credit card company. A few days later, the intake arrived (go figure). I guess if they want their money they can try to contact me for a change lol. Anyways, to my point: I hear talk of blown MAFs, could I have some more information on why this happens/the results of it? I don't want to have to buy a new MAF just because I put on a new intake. I mean, how is the MAF blown in the first place and how can I prevent it from happening? Thanks for all of your help.

what do you mean they didn't send you the MAF adaptor? Are you referring to the aluminum piece that attaches to the stock MAF tube, or are you referring to the rubber/silicone piece that goes from the midpipe to the aluminum piece? You realize you are supposed to use the stock MAF tube when installing the Frankencar, right? I mean THIS PIECE

As I recall, you should have gotten:
midpipe
2 aluminum adaptors
3 (i think) rubber/silicone couplers
6 large hose clamps
and the filter

which one of these things are you missing?

see photo below for how it should look set-up....

By the way, don't waste your time asking about why MAFs blow. The answer is: who knows? Twenty people will tell you 20 different "reasons" but none of them really knows, its all speculation....The MAF blows because it's not made right. That's why. Don't waste time worrying about it, just carry a spare in the trunk like I do!

The only problem year for the MAF's was 2002. If something were to happen to yours, you can just call DaveB and he can send you the inner part for $80-100. Us 2k2 guys have to pay $500! Anyway, I'm not sure what MAF adapter you are talking about. Since you stopped payment, just buy what you need from Berk. Bryan can send you whatever you need.

I'm talking about the aluminum piece that allows the filter to attach to the stock MAF tube.

ITS NOT ONLY 2K2 MAF
i had updated the ECU and got the latest MAF (2k3) and my MAF still went after awhile
my suggestion to you....don't get aftermarket intake, and don't drive your car hard

What exactly does the MAF do? if it just regulates air flow, can't it somehow be rewired? Sorry, I'm really a newb about this. I'm just trying to figure out a way to avoid spending the $100 if I blow the thing. Thanks.

You should have went with the Berk intake. I odered mine and it came in 4 days. After reading all the horror stories about Franklin Car I would never buy anything from them unless I could go pick it up directly from them.

My frankencar came quick (just over a week, as I recall), everything was there, it looks great and works great. Everything fit perfect.....

As to the "horror stories" - for every person who posts here to ***** about Frankencar (or blown MAF for that matter) there are 50 others who have never had any problems with either....they just don't post, since saying "everything is fine" is not something you need to post.....

Not to jack this thread or anything, but I have a frankencar intake and I was wondering if there were any writeups on how to install it. I checked the installations sticky and nothing was there. If anyone can provide me with a link or anything else, it would be much appreciated. Since I'm not too familiar with all the parts under my hood, pictures would help. Thanks in advance.
