Los Angeles KCAL 9 News- MAXIMA HID THEFT

KCAL 9 News just did a segment on Maxima HID theft nationwide. They said alot of people sueing Nissan because there making money on selling anti theft deterent kits when they should have done it for free. They also said something like over 700 HID stolen cases somewhere near the new jersey area the past year. Its pretty much out there in the public. Go and safe guard your HID's NOW. Looks like the east coast HID theft plague is comming to the west coast.

I saw the same thing on the channel 9 news here in Jersey. Pretty messed up how they are saying Nissan knew about the problems with the lights, but didn't do anything about it. I also saw that there is a big lawsuit against Nissan for knowing about the problem and not really doing anything about it because Nissan wants to continue making big sales on replacement lights. If you think about it, Nissan is making big bucks off of owners, including insurance companies. I'm just waiting to hear on the news that Nissan is paying people to steal lights out of Maxima's...LOL

I wish the media would stop going around telling people about how easily Maxima HIDs are removed. It's just going to give theives ideas.

That's exactly what happened last night, some ghetto-a$$ in an old celica sees me pull up on his left side, heading same direction, he is already stopped at the light, three cars back. He turns his head like a friggin owl and stares at the Max's front end and lights. Haters. I wish I would catch some dude ripping my lights out, I would wrap a thick barrel softball bat around his gourd.

I feel bad for the east coast people, but you guys are more than welcome to keep this problem.

They do?! Why not just make a shield that will cover up the horn wires from behind the grille. I assume thats where the horns are on the 2k2s as well...

I don't think the airing of these stories is goin to promote anymore theft amongst
the hooligans out in these parts. Theives will steal no matter what and Im sure they weren't enlightened to go out and steal after the broadcast. It may be that they are still stealing Honda and Acura emblems off cars and haven't found a way to modify the maxima light to fit into their Civic with the Supra Taillights(which they probably stole) Integra Engine(which they probably stole) with the POWERED BY HONDA windshield sticker(which they probably stole). Either way, if it hasn't already been a problem out here, it soon will be...East Coast has probably got some greasy dirt bags who might journey to Cali for a new business venture, if not we have out share of ghetto fabulous thugs that might just take you whole car...
Word to the rest of ya...go get a DEI Viper 791xv which has a 2 way remote transmitter that tells you when ever your car's gettin F**ked with. Have a can of industrial pepper spray and an aluminum bat handy for whenever it goes off.

datadots?

ok - i give up - what are datadots?, also - any other suggestions on types of alarms, or other safeguards we can try?

I called my local dealer and they have not received anything from Nissan regarding the "antitheft" brackets that Nissan is supposed to make available....

Even if they do cover it, you still have a decutable. If you have to use your insurance, your payments are going to go up. Either way you look at it, it sucks.
As for it being a modification to the car, if you call your insurance company and tell them you got this & this & that, ect... on your ride and you want it to be covered. They will cover it, but they will also charge you more to cover it. So once again, we dish out more $

I'm just imagining GF/wife and you dressed up, listening to the symphony play while seated in VIP box seats: she, ever so proud, holding a glass of wine and a program, you holding a can of industrial pepper spray in one hand and an aluminum bat in the other... Priceless !
