I'm interested in buying a pre-owned 2003 Maxima. The car is being sold to settle the estate of a deceased individual, so it is difficult to find out what kind of gas was used. My question is: After 46000 miles, is it ever too late to start using premium?

 

Don't worry about what kind of gas the car ran on for 46000 miles. When you get the car, use what's recommended.

A 2003 with 46,000 miles?? Dang, I thought I had a lot of miles on my 03 at 25,800! The gas is the least of your worries. On long trips, I just put regular in mine because all I'm doing is cruising on the highway. Once I get home, I run the tank empty and go back to premium. Your ECU will adjust. Make sure the car you're buying has had it's maintenance done, never been in an accident, etc. etc. How much are you buying this car for by the way and what trim and color is it? Just curious.

Uh no....pre-owned means previously owned. It's a euphemism for "used."

Since you are buying the car from someone's estate I'm figuring that they were an older individual. Since it's bone stock it was probably driven very lightly I wouldn't worry about it. If you are getting it for a great deal jump on it. You shouldn't have any problems.

 

yeah I wouldn't worry about the gas. Just make sure to get the car checked out fully by a mechanic or dealer. SInce its an 03, it's probably still under warranty too...

I don't think the thing was driven lightly, it's an '03 with 46,000 miles on it. That makes it practically a rental.

 

I figure that if there are that many miles on it they just drive a lot. I do mostly highway miles which is why I put on over 25K miles a year. The Maxima is what I drive mostly while the MR2 is what I drive for shorter trips. I have a beater car as well that I gave to my brother, it is a 92 Camry that I racked up 265K miles, mostly all highway.
