Check Engine Soon, Please Help
Well as some of you know I just got a 00 Maxima SE 5sp and took it into the dealer for an oil change. The day after the check engine light comes on and the car is running rough. What it does is climb to around 3000 rpms and then starts hesitating and won't climb any higher. After it set it was fine, then it did it again. I took it back to the dealer and they looked it over, but said nothing was loose in terms of sensors or anything and they want $80 just to hook it up to read the computer. I think it is coincedence that this occured so close to the oil change, at least I hope it is. But have any of you had something similar happen or can you tell from the symptoms what could be wrong. I think that it always was a little hesitant when I got on it from the start now that I think about, but I have no comparison of what it should be like.
Does $80 sound average for just a diagnostics test??
Any ideas what is wrong and can i fix it myself??
If anyone needs anymore information let me know.
thanks

Man I love this site!!!!
I've had the same symptoms and dealt with it for almost a year
Once in a while the idle races up to 3000 RPM's and stay there. I would have to shut the car down to get it back to normal. There would also be times when the engine would just shut down. I thought it was the coils and was close to ordering a new set.
Well I decided to clean out the throttle body. Once completed the car wouldn't start, but after the 3rd try she fired right up. The idling issue did resurface momentarily but after a few spririted runs my car is back to normal
I did a full day of driving and so far no climbing idle and no stalling out. I hope it stays this way.

It took me 20 mins to do and it was my first time ever. Good luck.
