big mistake?

I needed my oil changed (almost at 80k) so i found a coupon for an express oil change and a 14 point expression at a local hyundai dealership. the mechanic came back and told me that my wiper blades ($37.51) were streaking, my drive belts ($72.15) needs to be replaced and my axle seal ($108.23) is leaking. Am I getting taken to the cleaners by them if I go there? The closest reliable Nissan dealership is 20 mins away. I am going home in a month and I should get these problems fixed soon. This may seem like a dumb question but would it be ok to let the Hyundai mechanics work on it?

I wouldn't do it either. Since Hyundai don't have the parts nor necessary tools for Nissan cars to work on.

Judging from the build quality of most Korean cars, I wouldent let them touch my car with a 10ft pole!

i dont know about the other 2 things but the fact that they are wanting to charge $37 for wiper blades would be enough to make me walk away

then again i dont know the normal price for maxima blades, but $37 seems ridiculous

You saying they break down easily or something? My friend owned a Hyundai Exel and that thing had crazy miles (driving all around the US) on it and it was still running fine. I had much more problems w/ my Taurus and Sable.

I wouldn't let any other dealership except Nissan to work on my car period

Don't you ever use your wipers? You would know if they were streaky or not. You should be able to change your own belts especially if they have never been replaced on your car. As for the leaking axle seal, did they show it to you? Those prices seem steep but I'm sure most of it is labor. It only takes a couple of minutes to change wiper blades. The axle seal will take about 30 minutes by an experienced tech. Belts might take longer depending on how accessible they are. I would not let them do any of that work on my car. I do the majority of my own maintenance anyway so I'm biased.

Since when did these Hyundai guys become experts on nissans?

See, that's why when you go to places to change oil they do all these other "complimentary"' checks.....check other fluids, check wipers, check belts, etc.....

They figure that if you can't change your own oil then they can probably tell you anything and you won't know if they're lying.

btw - I'm not saying YOU can't change your own oil, just saying there are alot of people out there who can't

your axle could blow. You'll be calling for a tow truck.
