With all the problems that the BOSE owners have had, what about you guys, the ones without BOSE?

I have not had any problems yet. I've had the car since January 02 and have almost 26K miles on it.

I had a problem with the auto-volume control. It was set on high and seemed to turn up (really loud) even at the slightest outside noise.

I set it to low and haven't had any problems.

I've had my 03 since Feb. 03 and no problem yet. But how do you make the auto volume work?

I can't remember the details, but it is in the manual under stereo controls. There are three settings LOW, MED and HI.

You have to have the type B head unit to have the Speed sensitive Control Volume feature. I have the type A head unit so I don't have it.

Can you tell the types apart by looking at them? If so, how?

The type B has a CD load button in the upper left corner of the head unit and type A does not. Look in your owner's manual on page 4-15.

Never had a problem with mine. But had my headunit replace due the volume dial on the unit won't turn the volume level due to an internal failure.

You mean no problem besides that volume issue?

damn all ya lucked out, mine came with a tape player and 4 speakers ! anything over 1/3 volume would distort like crazy. Highs where none existant, lows... sounded like someone pounding on a piece of cardboard box.... I ditched the OE system within one month- waited for the new Alpines to come out. I've had my Alpine for 2.5 years now, not a single glitch and I expect it that way for the next 10 years to come like I had with my 3rd gen. Ya all need to get the GXE center console vents and upgrade the crappy Bose radio.
