fog light rewire

hey everyone,

I know that there are writeups for rewiring the fog lights. But from the writeup, they are tapping the foglight wire to the taillight or sidemarker. By doing this, the foglight switch becomes useless. Is there a way to rewire the foglight so that I can switch the foglight on without the headlights being on AND being able to use the foglight switch

You need to read the FAQ and IMPORTANT threads before posting a question.

Any way here it is:

Tapping into the taillight wire doesn't make the fog switch useless. It functions just as before. how-to is actually here: www.innerbean.com/housecor/fog_rewire.html

Thanks custommaximaSE.

You can get them just about anywhere... they're very common. The next time you're in an auto parts store or Radio Shack, etc look for them.

from housecor's website, you don't cut the taillight wire, you cut the foglight wire and quick splice it to the taillight, and since you have a 2001 you cut the yellow wire.. someone correct me if i'm wrong.. let me know how it goes.. I haven't tried taking off the fuse box yet so i can't help you there.. try looking at the picture's of housecor's website, it should help

i just cut both wires in half, the foglight wire gives a bit more slack than the tail light one does so don't do like i did and cut your tail light wire too short. then i just twisted the top ends of the fog and tail wires together and clamped/crimped them in one end of a connector and put the bottom of the tail light wire in the other end. then i covered the connection in friction tape.

like i said i cut my tail wire too short so i had to wire the short end in to the top of the fog wire so it's a little ghetto in my car.

If you're using the quick-splice things from RadioShack or wherever, it works because the thing slices into the wire a little when you crimp down its metal piece (the quick-splice connectors have a metal piece poking out the top that you crimp down with some pliers after you insert the wires)

They're on the body side corner of the box. To release them, you'll need a very small screwdriver or pointy object. Stick this into the tiny access holes on the body side corner of the box. I'll throw that missing pic up after work.

thanks spirilis for making it clear.. ok i just removed the fuse box.. u should see 2 small holes in the fuse box toward the fender, stick a small flathead screw driver in there and push toward the engine, it should then come out

ok, i just finished doing mine... it works.. took forever.. the taillight wire is coming from the taillight fuse.. its a red wire with green strips and silver dots... i'm remembering that from the top of my head so someone please confirm that.. peice of advice.. when you cut the foglight wire, don't cut it too short b/c it'll be harder to quick splice it.. that was my mistake and it made it harder for me
