RAM air intake?
trans ams are on the hood. and yes it is a CAI even on them. it is a scoop that brings in cold air
but here you go anyway. even though this wont increase airflow any more then a normal CAI

here is the best way to explain it.
picture a funnel. it has a huge opening to catch alot of a liquid. but ultimatly, the amount of liquid flow is dermined by the small tube at the bottom. no matter how big you make the opening, the amount of liquid that can pass it not increased.
on our car the little tube is the throttle body. no matter how large you make something for the air to go it, you cant get more air then the throttle body can take. so an opening any bigger then the trottle body is a waste cause the "extra" air wont make it to your engine.

yea it does make sense.. so in other words if you want to get more Hp you should get a bigger throttle body?
so.. why are intakes for ... if you can only put so much air into the throttle body...

Intakes reduce the restriction and direction of incoming air. Its more about flow than volume. They replace restrictive OEM air boxes that slow the air flow down for filtration. This process also slows the air down which also heats the air up. CIA is best because it draws in the coldest air available wether from a scoop on the front, or a hole in the wheel well. Soonerfan is right, its the same animal.
Also, from what i was told, the difference between a CAI and a WAI is not much. At high speeds, WAI will still manage to suck in Cold air since the vehicle is moving. The biggest difference between a CAI and a WAI is at idle, even then, CAI can suck in warm air. This is what i have been told, is this true?
Can we please stop these intake threads.....we all know everything there is to know about intakes.....the best of them gain NOT THAT MUCH ! Makes our cars sound like beasts.......you guys all sound like ricers,, arguing about intakes......I bet if you go to SVT Performance, you wont see as many intake threads, as we do,....stop it already !

N E ways, here is my two cents. Ram air does help. Why? Less turbulence. In most cases, if done right, it has less restriction than a CAI that is mounted at the bottom of the engine bay. There are bends and a whole lotta piping that it has to flow through.
Why does the berk intake work? Less restriction. I don't think ram air works like a miniature forced induction system(cause if it did, then we would all have electric superchargers) but if the piping or airflow is done orrectly then turbulence can be greatly reduced.
But... I have yet to see a good ram air system beginning from the Intake Manifold to the scoop.

you can improve air flow (less restrictive)
cooler air (placing intake where it gets cool air)
those are the ONLY two ways! both of those together is "RAM air". RAM air is not "better" cause there is no better, its just a cool name.
so if you have a CAI, there is no step above that. it cant get better. but if you want to impress people you can always call it "RAM air"
and like kloogy said, even the best intake does not improve performance that much.
a CAI has at most 1/2 - 2 hp diffirence over a GAB. when that gets to the wheels it is nothing. the CAI is for apperance and so people can say they have it.
ill stick with my GAB that does the same thing (improve air flow)
The so called Ram Air may help to decrease the vaccuum when driving. Air from outside is basically more readily available. There is no compression from this setup tho, which is where most people get confused.

you dont need "RAM air" to do that
basically for cars there is no such thing as ram air. intakes are intakes, they all let air into the engine. i like my GAB/OSCAI, it works, and I know i'm not getting "boost" from having the end of my tubing facing the front of the car. I do get all the outside air I want tho, and that seems to work out nicely
