Has anyone found a better tire? I am curious to know what everyone thinks of their protenzas, or if another tire is better. I am thinking about replacing with Michelin Pilots, because the Protenzas see very loud to me. Especially on concrete freeways!

They also seem to be only fair on wet roads. They're a decent tire, but wondering if anyone has discovered something better? How 'bout the Michelins?

The way the Max powers out of corners, I feel like the stability of the tire is suspect. I have 17" wheels (stock SE AE 6 spokers). Am I out of it?

You can find much better tires than the stock Potenzas. They are quite suspect in terms of wet conditions. They handle decently when dry. But, I have heard Michelins are a definite improvement.

depends on how much you want to spend...my stock bridgestones wore out after 14k miles so i replaced them with almost top of the line bridgestones...the potenza re730's...you should look into tires with a V type tread because they are often much better at getting rid of water...how much do you have to spend?

I'll spend whatever is necessary to get something good, but would like to keep it under $200 per tire.

Tires

Here some of the tires I've had:

Nitto NT-450 ($100-$110 each)<<< ok

Kumho Ecsta Supra 712 ($100 each) LOVED EM

Bridgestone Potenza S-02 ($???) Stock tire on S-2000
Driven one with them, great tire, I hear they're expensive though

Sumitomo HTR-Z II ($115 each)lotsa people like them.

Other tires to look into : Falken, Yokohama, & Toyo

U don't need to spend tons of money to get a great tire. I was very partial to my Kumhos. Huge bang for the buck.

Michelin Pilots

I have run the Pilots on Both my Ram Air TA and my wifes Supercharged Regal. Tires handle extremely well in wet and dry. Doesn't snow in FL. Wear out a little quicker than most High Po tires 15-20k miles. My wifes new Maxima handles ok but I can feel tires at the limit. I find very few tires in the exact size that came on the car and will consider 18" wheels and tire soon......if you sticking with the 17"s then Michelin is probably the best money can buy. Try TIRERACK for sizing and price, they freight ship to your door and fast (4 days).....

Bridgestone replacement

You can check the history on my threads, I've had lots to say about the Protendas. Not to be a jokester, I had NISSAN replace my Bridgestones out of their pocket due to my dissatisfaction with the quality of that tire. I went with Michelin Pilot HX MXM4, sized to spec. I've never been happier. The ride quaility improvement is 100%. It's truly a shame Nissan puts such a shoddy tire on such a competent car.

Good luck. srm

I hate the stock tires so much i am thiking of replacing them already (2500 Miles). They don't handle in the dry worth garbage, and they are even worse in the wet. Nissan couldn't have picked a worse tire for OEM. I am going to get 235/45 17 next time, The Pirelli P7000 SS, they have excellent treadwear (320 i beleive) and they are Z rated.

i'd say get either toyo proxes t1-s or bridgestone potenza re730's...change the stock size of 225/50R17 to 235/45ZR17...it will not hurt the car and the slightly wider stance will add to the handling...235 is the widest our stock rims can take (thats what i have on mine)...the re730's are about $140 per tire from tirerack and i'm not sure how much the toyo's cost

Are Toyos really that good?

On my stock 16" GXE, it came with proxes A05, is it good?
I drive mainly on highway so I'm thinking about the Turanza Revo. It's said to be a very quiet tire with excellent wet traction due to its dual layer tread. Anyone has experienced with them?

Hiya.

How does going with wider tires affect ride quality?? Softer or harsher??

Thanks.

well the stock potenza's didn't give the best ride quality and my new potenzas are pretty similar as far as ride quality and noise go...it all depends on the tire...if you look at tirerack and then search for a certain size...then if you click on the picture of the tire, they have ratings of noise/ride etc. etc. for everything you want to know...that is a really good place to check

Hey wolfmax, I just did an extensive research, I think one brand that you want to have a look at are the Kumho Ecta Supra 712 the 235/45/17 will fit perfectly our stock 6 spoke magwheel, it will bulge a bit, but that's great since it will prevent damaging you mag when parked to close to a side walk.

Those tires are available at tirerack, for I believe 100$ US each ( really cheap in term of price ) I got those locally
(I live in Canada) for 180$ CDN, there is nothing out there that match those for the price.

You can difenitely get better tire for much more money.

Good luck.

Cheers

doublea makes a good point...kumho's are great tires for $100...they will be much better than stock and will only cost $100 per tire (which is the cheapest performance geared tire you can buy)...but, as doublea said, you can do better if you are willing to spend more...don't get me wrong, kumho makes great tires, but if you ARE WILLING to spend more on tires, you should...tires are one of the most important suspension mods you can make on your car and if you are willing on spending $210 per tire plus money to get them installed, get the potenza s-02 pole positions, but since many people aren't willing to pay that much, get something in your price range...kumho's are great tires and are very similar to nittos, but they are about $20 less per tire than nittos (nitto 450's)

Oh. I thought there would be some relationship like how the ride gets harsher when you go from 17's to 18's. I was thinking there might be some sort of same relationship as far as width goes -- just not sure which way.

Thanks for the reply though

Hey rerunn, I use to have an 98Se with 16" wheel, when my first set went over( 205/55/16 ) I upgraded with 225/50/16
what a differance it was, I can still remember that the wheel felt little more eavier but the car handling was improoved and I coulded really appreciate the difference. That's why I order the Kumhbo, I'll post some pic, as soon as I get my camera back.

I spoke with few guys who already have 18" they liked it very much, but here in Quebec the road are in terrible condition.
So going very low profile like 30/35/40 is risky here, that's why I figured out going 235/45/17 improve the look and mostly the handling it also give a good margin when you hit a pothole.

Hope this can help you.

Cheers

whoa

I just want to reiterate just how *BAD* the stock Potenzas are in wet weather...!! It's raining pretty bad here today and I almost wrecked twice while out to lunch. I wasn't even driving the car hard at all. The first time I was simply accelerating up this one hill and next thing you know I'm hydroplaning!!@#$%^&* Oh well...just needed to vent...time to start thinking about some new tires!!

Hey wolfmax, I made my choice on the Ecsta supra 712, 235/45/17 fit perfectly on stock 17", check at tirerack.com they sell it for 100$US /each. You cant possibly get a better tire for that king of money. If you want the best of the best I think the Potenza Pole position is one that kind but cost 550$ CDN each, euh.

Good luck

The ride quality won't suffer as much as your gas mileage.
