Problem - please help - car is bucking

heres the deal/story -
2 weeks ago i started the car, and it was bucking, i had a total loss of power, its not the exhaust but you can hear it out the exhaust, it wasnt free flowing, it was like da da da ...yeah like that made any sense..its hard to explain. i drove it home, and the check engine light came on, the next morning i started it and it was fine, but i brought it to the shop anyway, to get it checked out, and get the light cleared. they check it, and said nothing was wrong, clearned the light and it was fine.
so i thought maybe something was just in the gas, and I got a little blockage.

2 weeks later, yesterday, i started it to go to work, same thing again(bucking), i revved it a few times, and it even backfired a little. i started it again this morning to see if it went away again, but its still doing it.

anyone ever had this prob? the shop said everything was fine, now it happens again...im at a total loss.

any help would be appreciated!! thanks

if the light was on, there had to be a code there. i would take it to an autozone if you have one near to have it pulled for free. since you have a 00 and the symptons sound familiair, i take a stab and say that your ignition coil(s) are bad or are just about there.

EXACT same problem

I just fixed the EXACT same problem w/ my 2000 this weekend. Error codes indicated it was the #1 cylinder ignition coil. I replaced this coil and I have not had the bucking problem anymore. You need the error codes to find out which cylinder it is. Other wise you may need to replace all 6 coils at like $65/coil.

My car gave me several error codes. Each time I would write them down and clear the codes. Only once did it indicate a cylinder #. You should see if you can get the codes that already came up to see if they specify a cylinder #. You may even want to wait until it gives you a cylinder # before fixing. It could save you over $300.

The dealer wanted 1.5 hrs of labor to change the part. Having never changed an ignition coil before I did it in .5 hrs and it was on the firewall side.

Good Luck!

If your car is backing, it is likely gas, spark or MAF related. If you are back firing, I would think that your are running rich. How is your gas milage?

Try checking your plug wire resistance, change plugs, check for loose clamps for the intake tract

Actually mine started bucking about 6 months ago. One day it was bucking when I had the car in gear w/ my foot on the brake. After I got where I was going and came out to start it again it was fine but the service engine soon light was on. Then about a few months later it hapened again. I kind of procrastinated until it was happening every other time I started the car (which was last week). I put the new coil in Sat and it hasn't happened since.

The fact that yours is bucking then working fine then bucking is why it struck me as so similar to my problem.

Just try to get a cylinder # out of your OBD so you can save some $.

This is interesting....My car recently started bucking when I accelerate intially after first starting the car when it's cold. It goes away quickly but is annoying as hell. I've recently had an O2 sensor (front) replaced, had the fuel system service at the dealer, and had the coils replaced about 25k-30k miles ago. I haven't had an SES occur for this problem yet. Somehow I was thinking that maybe the MAF is hosed, but I really don't know what's causing it at this point.

My MAX used to buck, especially during hard acceleration. It never did backfire, but drove me nuts! Turned out the prob was a hosed MAF. Never did get a SES light. A few months later I got a SES light and the engine started to run ruff. I pulled the code and replaced #6 coil and everything is good....for now.

yeah, this sounds like the exact prob, im not even talking about bucking when driving, starts as soon as i start the car. im sure it is a coil, and they prob didnt even check that when i brought it down the first time. just gotta wait for it to do it again now.

thanks for the help, this thread will def save me a lot of money, im sure
