another coil ?
Ok, just got the car back from the local Nissan dealer, 89 bucks just to run the code! They are telling me $400+ for 6 coils, $390 for labor, and $89 for intake gaskets. I'm looking under the hood, and can't see why the intake manifold needs to come off. I can see all the coils on the rear bank . . .seems like the dealer is trying to take me for a ride. Anyone with personal experience changing the coils/spark plugs? Is there something I am not seeing that would explain why the intake manifold needs to come off? btw, I have a 2000SE
thanks,

thanks for the reply. I'll be changing them myself then. Also thinking of buying the coils from twllin on this site also. He's selling 6 new coils for 240, that's quite a discount. Think I may also go back to the dealer and question them some more about the quotes they gave me. Specifically why they say the intake manifold needs to come off. If they can show me the factory manual which states that, fine . . .otherwise I'm gonna scream to the BBB.

Next time go somewhere like AutoZone and use their OBDII scanner. You can use it for free and it gives you the same codes. Coils are hella easy to install, you will feel a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction knowing that you saved yourself some money and especially knowing that the stealership didnt get your hard earned cash.....

Unfortunately, there is no autozone here. And the Checkers that I went to gave a generic engine trouble code, nothing specific. The car is my dad's, and while I was looking at it, I couldn't believe that the dealer told him the intake has to come off. I've changed the top half of the motor, including cam, on my '93 mustang, so I have some mechanical know-how. The more I type, the hotter I'm getting at that dealer.

You're getting screwed. I made the mistake of letting the dealer fix mine when #1 went out. I called them the day it was supposed to be complete and the guy said the part just came in but they haven't started working on it yet... 5 minutes later they called and said it was done, so its obviously a quick fix.
BTW, I can vouch for DAVEB - I've purchased a few items from him and can say nothing but good things about him. I even have him on speed dial in case of emergencies!
