Towing stats for 2002 Maxima SE
Hello,
Does anyone know the towing capacity of a 2002 Maxima SE?
How about the maximum "tongue weight" for a class 1 hitch for the car?
I vaguely remember the towing to be only 1000 lbs, but I never knew what
the tongue weight was.
Any help would be great.
Thanks.

you can get away with 3500lbs with a proper hitch.
1500 should do fine stock.
thing is unibody + fwd = a big mess...
not sure about the tongue weight but the less, the better. as long as the rear doesn't sag too much you know you are doing fine. while the engine power is there to tow a lot of weight, the overal vehicle construction limits that greatly, so you never quite reach the point where you can't town due to lack of power.

Ok..so I found the toungue weight of the 2004 Maxima to be only 100 lbs. Sheesh. That doesnt seem like much. If my 2002 Max is anything like the 2004, then I guess a luggage rack attached to the hitch(like a bike rack) is pretty much out of the question. (since that would be all tongue weight)
If anyone knows for sure, I would love to find out the official 2002 stat.

I'm looking for a tent trailer right now, and will keep it in the 1500/150 range, which is more than Nissan states is the maximum, but I think they really under rated it. BTW, I have a hitch on the Max now, can jump on it and not make the car bottom out (I'm 200 lbs.).
