I am not talking about a short shifter ****, or whatever, but the actual shifting assembly that ounts to the tranny. I love my manual but, sometimes when I feel like just getting on it, downshifting can be a chore and very cumbersome. anyone know if there is a company that makes something like this for us?

Maybe we could get the shifter assembly from the 350, but that would be highly unlikely since (I am assuming) those have a different tranny than we do.

Stillen, B&M, and Pacesetter all make short-throw shifters for our 5th gen's. I just bought the Stillen, and am having it installed Tuesday - I'll let you know how it works out - I'm hoping it not only significantly reduces the throws but also the height of the stock shifter, which to me is like shifting with a broom handle.

never mind, I did some research for those that are curious as well...

B&M
Stillen
Pacesetter

I think this would make my driving experience more enjoyable. I know that the engine rpms kind of sustain between shifts, is the quicker shifting going to put more wear and tear prematurely on the tranny?

B&M goes for about $120, $tealin goes for $210 or something like that, and not sure about pacesetter but everyone says it is a POS.

I have a B&M and its nice, but I dont like how the shift pattern is moved up. I also dont like how stiff it is. Any STS will be stiff though, so thats just me complaining. From what I understand, the $tealin is like the B&M only it keeps the shift pattern similar to stock. With the B&M, 4th gear is near where neutral was before. I dont care for this because of the way I sit. Im kinda tall though, so it might be more comforable if you arent too tall and dont sit so far back. I would have bought the $tillen but its waaayyy overprice and I refuse to buy from $tillen because I think they are crooks. Just my .02

Edit: oops nm i see you found the links. Jesus 240 for the $tealin...yikes.

Also, has anyone done this install themselves? it seems like a lot more than what the instructions call for, but not hard at all. just jacking up the car, and removing the old shifter from underneath and installing the new one from the inside. a lot of climbing in and out of the car...

just thinking out loud

Yes, you can keep the oem shift **** or most others. No, you cant keep the stock height i dont think. The pacesetter is adjustable, so mabey you can with that. But Ive heard a whole lot of **** talk about the pacesetter sts.

Install is pretty simple. You have to take out the cat as I recall, which is proably the most labor intensive part of it. I was lazy and had my mechanic install it when he was doing other work.

pacesetter

pacesetter out of the box is crap. I wound up grinding down the fulcrum ball to make it work right. After it broke in it works like a champ. No more feeling like I am rowing a boat. Stock **** fits but i got the Greddy heavy counter weight **** for even better action.

counter weight? so you mean to tell me that with the pacesetter, the shifter has little to no resistance on the ****?

counter weight

with the shorter throws it is more notchy, though less when broken in as time passes. The extra weight on the **** makes the shifting action more positive and easier. Looks better too.

No, there is no need to drop whole cat. Just the front and let the back hang down with the b-pipe.

I understand now. so with the short throw shifter, you still lose some height on the shifter itself? I don't want my shifter being at the base of the leather boot

Not with pacesetter, the height is shorter but not a whole lot. With stock **** you can barely tell it's modified just from looking at it. I'm like you, I wanted it almost stock height. Didn't want a gawddy look( no offense to anyone). By the way, I adjusted it half way. All the way would be shorter and more notchy. As it is I have no complaints. If you prefer a more simple install go with the B&M. Not sure about the height though. Pacesetter was $68 for me.

remember that the pacesetter stich height is adjustable

the b&m and stillen are relatively shorter, but not to the point it looks like a stump
