Transponder Key

I just got a spare transponder key and I wanted to know, after I get it cut, are there programming directions for it - like the 2000 remotes OR do I have to take it to the dealer/locksmith to get it programmed?
Thanks.

You have two choices, 1) go to a dealer for cutting and programming or 2) go with a company like streetkeys @ www.streetkeys.com, they'll send you a key and a local locksmith who can cut your key. If you just get it cut it won't work. Also, since you have a key already, I got my key cut at a locksmith in Alexandria, I see you're in Richmond if you don't mind the trip you could go directly to them and probably save on the key and service. Send me a PM if you'd like that info. Otherwise I think your best option is street keys, that's what I used, it's cheaper than the dealer and the key works fine I've been using it everyday for 5 months.

Just go to the dealer and pay the guy $20 on the side.
